P0506/P0302 idling problems

So I just purchased an 05 shinka from a used car dealership in fredericksburg. and a week after i took it off the lot it wouldnt idle and had a hard time starting, after a week or so of calling the dealership and arguing with them because they say the warranty doesnt cover a tune-up, i decided to try and fix it on my own.:icon_no2:

I replaced spark plugs and spark plug wires...coils are in the mail, checked for vacuum leaks and cleaned the MAF sensor. The car still idles extremely rough, and has very hesitant starts. I hear a rattling coming from the exhaust pipe and there is a huge loss in HP..

The car is shooting P0302 and P0506

I dont really know what else to do. Any ideas?

wait until you get the coils. That should fix your problem.
Where are you losing power?
Also, how many miles are on your car?

rotarynoob8 02-21-2011 12:52 AM

70,000 miles..

also, when it does start up, the smell of gasoline is very strong and if i rev her up, then drop her back to idle she shuts off.

it feels like she has no power during acceleration, i tried to move her into a better parking spot today, and she was moving inches at a time even when i had a heavy foot on the gas.

you probably have a clogged cat. A way to check is either take it off and look inside/ shake it and listen for loose material. Or, after a hard drive, check under the car to see if the cat is glowing red.
If so, you're still under warranty.

I have the same exact problem, ever figure out what it was. I have already replaced the plugs and wires. Was it the coils or the cat or something else completely?

Please help! po302 and po506

I've been seeing a lot of people posting these codes but no fixes.. it all started about 1 month ago.. car was running great drove all day everything was fine stop to put gas premium of course.. got about 3 miles up the road loss power big time ..foot. to the floor barely getting to 30mph then it killed .. After a few times to tring to restart it finally cranked over. Was tring to get home when noticed smoke coming through console... got car towed to house.. haven't got it started since.. ran codes po302(2nd cylinder misfire) and po506( idle control system rpm low).. think the cat is what started smoking so changed it.. Also changed plugs, wires, coils, and cleaned sensors.. finally got it started, not for long like a min. Then it kills rpms are still really low no power at all.. it'll start after much hesitation. . But if try to move it kills.. Also I changed the altanator about 2 months ago and every time I try to crank it.. it drains the hell out of battery literally every time I try to crank it I have to charge the bat. . Which I bout a new battery today so that's not it.. Also when it does start the car shakes really bad and the power steering malfunction light just came on also.. I know it's alot! it is an 04 rx8 manuel with 112k miles.. up to date with oil changes.. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it I'm at a total loss right now. .never had any problems until now:( Thanks in advance!

Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but did anyone figured out what the problem was? If so, what is the way to fix it? Having the same exact problem with my RX8.
