Overheating after BHR Ignition
 

I Just installed my BHR Ignition, however having problems with overheating. When i first started the car i let it idle until it was warmed up, all of a sudden my aftermarket sub stopped working and then I noticed the temp gauge go past half and then steam coming from the coolant bottle. I quickly shut off the car right after.

I did however ground the BHR Ignition at the ground location under the air box, however after the incident I moved it to the ground location near the master cylinder.

Just to point out that I haven't had any overheating issues lately, and the fact that it is 59 deg outside and pouring rain I don't think it should have overheated in 15 min.

There is no way installing a BHR kit and overheating are related.

Unless maybe (big maybe) you didn't disconnect the battery while installing it and shorted the coolant fans or something.

I didn't disconnect the battery since the car was off during installation. However, I checked the fan fuse and it was blown. Upon further inspection it looked like a piece of plastic had fallen into the fan, probably when I was installing the BHR kit unknowingly.

So everything seems to be working now.

Ah, glad you sorted it. But you should always disconnect the battery when doing anything electrical on a vehicle.

I'll tell you what happened.

You removed the air filter box to install the coils, right? Right below the air box is a tray. On that tray there are 4 holes with rubber grommets around them. The air filter box has 4 "feet" that slides into those holes, to help secure it. When trying to fix the air filter box back in, sometimes one of those rubber grommets fall through the hole in the tray, land on your fan blades and jam the fans. That's what happened. That's why you overheated. That's why you blew the fan fuse. And that's the part you found.

Depending on how long you ran it, you may have screwed up the fan motor connector. 2 things can happen.

1) the coolant from the overflow hose fell into the fan connector and melted it.
2) because the fan got jammed a short circuit could've melted it.

Check if it has melted on the inside. If it has, replace the connector, it's only gonna get worse, and eventually it's gonna stop giving power to the fan completely. You don't want that when you're away from home.

Always be very careful when refitting the air filter box. Check if those grommets are still in place after fixing it. I superglued mine in place, so they won't fall through.
