Old article on what type of oil to use

Hey,
I found this article online about the use of 5W-20 and how that actually ruins the engine faster than using 5W-30 which is recommended in other parts of the world for the RX-8.

It says that using 5W-30 voids the warranty here in the US because 5W-20 is a cleaner oil.

Just thought this might be an interesting article to read.

Frightening

My owners manual recommends 5W20. Many of us have come to that conclusion that that is too light and causing abnormal bearing wear.. I am presently using 10W40. Some are using 20W50. Others are using oil designed for diesel engines.

It has been reported that most of the engine in the US have been from carbon build up and not from bearing failure.

the article is a joke and full of misunderstandings.

Mazda does not REQUIRE 5w20 it recommends. Mazda DOES allow the use of Non-synthetics and in fact encourages them.

Mazda DOES NOT void the warranty for using oils other than 5w20.

Mazda DOES NOT require the oils so the cars meet some mpg standards. They are required by the EPA to recommend THE OILS they used in the TESTS for MPG numbers.

Mazda shortened the bumper to bumper warranty but EXTENDED the DRIVE TRAIN warranty for all their cars to reflect changes made by their competitors.

It is not a given that using 5w20 will result in an engine that lasts only 30k miles.

What would the class action suit be about? Mazda replacing engines for free? Because they haven't voided anyone's warranty for 5w30 as is stated over and over again there.

Its just a ridiculous post. I understand the anger people faced when the engine failure issue was at its height. but that's just a poor post
