Oil Temp Gauge Not Moving much if at all
i think something might be wrong with my a.)gauge b.)oil thermostat.
I live in missouri and its cold right now. Im a college student and went out this morning to start my rx8 and noticed at 30F when i started it my oil temp gauge went right to halfway without warmup started noticing when i started my car a couple time that day after it sat in the cold it also started up in the oil temp of halfway again. Im not sure if my gauge is broke or is the oil thermostat is stuck or something but i'd like any help in figuring it out! Thanks! |
Welcome to the world of Mazda
That isn't an oil temperature gauge, but an oil pressure gauge. It doesn't actually tell you the oil pressure either. The needle has 2 positions, with 'no pressure' being all the way to the left, and 'has some pressure' where it's just about halfway (the exact angle of the needle can shift from car to car). We call it a dummy gauge, since it doesn't tell you anything useful and is used only because of dumb owners. Mazda last used a real oil pressure gauge sometime in the 1990s, and switched to this dumbed down version because of owners that kept bringing their car into the dealership scared that something bad was happening just because the needle was moving. People like that bother me, and we have to live with the consequences.... |
Its not a gauge, its a dummy switch. It has two positions.. zero and "pressure" which is right around the half way mark.
How long have you had your 8? This is common knowledge around here. Please try searching before asking questions and DEFINITELY read this in its entirety. New and Potential Owners START HERE! **EDIT*** dammit Mike, you're real fast ;) |
Unless you've added an aftermarket oil temperature gauge, you don't have an oil temperature gauge.
Either read section ~5-33 in the owner's manual or read what it says on the gauge: "Oil-P" |

If he searched for "oil temp gauge" he would not have found the right threads, anyway.
So, here is a serious question: Why do you think "Oil-P" stands for Oil Temperature? Your Gauge is fine, now search for the right thing and you will find out why :) |
Hmm, looks like he created a 2nd thread.... I guess he didn't like my answer in the other one:

https://www.rx8club.com/trouble-shoo...if-all-242282/ haha yes im new to the rx8 ive only had it a week. my old car was a 8 firebird so I'm not used to a newer car yet and am still noticing thing. and yes i searched oil temp gauge with nothing coming up which is why I made a post. I dont get why people have to "flame" and be rude to people. (not that anybody was really that rude in reply to my post) it's easy... read and respond to someone's questions or read and ignore. It really bothers me when people are rude over forums because someone doesnt know as much as them about the car. ( this is the reason why most people come to the forum in the first place, to LEARN) thanks for the help guys I just wanted to make sure it wasnt some thermostat problem or anything. So far i love my 8! wanted one for at least 4 yrs now and finally got one!! |
