Oil sensor is broken and leaked out all of my oil...
Long story short I was driving ('04 Mazda RX8) and had to swerve as to not hit something and while off the road I must have hit something that snagged the sensor chord so it ripped it out of the oil pan and broke the clip. So in the morning all the oil had bled out of it... called my local mazda dealership and they don't have it in stock (selling for $83) so my question is is this a universal part? Will I be able to pick it up from any other type auto shops? Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks

I don't believe so... its a small black prong looking deal with a chord behind it and it really looks like it just plugs right in... when I moved it is when the oil starts leaking again so that has to be it. I would like to think it's as easy as buying the new chord and replacing it... but it's never that easy ... nice av by the way beetlejuice

He's as bad as Can
Is the oil leaking from where clip 10-259 is? If so the problem seems to be with the sensor (10-7301) which is inside the oil pan. That means to fix it requires dropping the pan.

Those pics do help. HERE is the best photo of a normal one I could find. Is that clip I mentioned there and in one piece? It looks like a standard clip, you might want to take a rough measurement of the hole and but a few clips bigger & smaller and see if that fixes it. If in fact the sensor is the problem they will have to drop the pan to fix it $$$$$. Try other dealers, and call Paul at Mazmart, in pact PM him.

the sensor plugs right into the opening to another prong fixed to fit it. but when I plus it in it pushes the little seal in and lets oil out... I need to find a way to keep the receiving prong steady so it doesnt move into the pan and leak oil...
