ShellDude 08-30-2008 11:29 PM

hi twerks. if you're waiting for your oil light to come on to check your oil, you're waiting too long.

Chances are it has a non-synthetic 5w-20 in it. Castrol GTX 5w-20 is probably the best "out of the box" oil although many, self included, run different mixes.

TheDopeShow 08-30-2008 11:30 PM

u need to be checkin your oil like every week or so,, every two fillups. could cost u alot of money if you don't read your owners manual. everyone uses diff oil on here but your recommend to use (NON SYNTHETIC) 5w-20 go for castrol gtx.... I think u burn on avg a quart every 1000 miles dependin on how u rev her.

twerks510 08-30-2008 11:33 PM

thanx for your help everyone but how much do i put in now that the light came on and went away as soon as i wasent on a slooped drive way? and i just foudn the owers manuel and started reading thanx again just need to know how much to add now

TheDopeShow 08-30-2008 11:40 PM

never had it come on for me before so i dunno so. check the stick u know where its at right :eyetwitch j/k add a quart to be safe though

twerks510 08-30-2008 11:42 PM

I know from work that most other cars need at least 2qts when the light comes on. If not almost empty. I would hope the light on our cars comes on sooner since they are designed to burn oil.

Also if you have ran that long without checking it you may just want to get it changed and start fresh.

swoope 08-30-2008 11:54 PM

to clear this up a bit.

you need to check you oil. the low and full marks = ~ 1.75 qts.

you will not likely go through that much between oil changes unless you do track days or beat the crap out of it every day..

check the oil on a flat surface.

and i would thinks about at least a 5 / 30 or 10 / 40 depending on where you live..

but if you dont know how much oil is in the car, you have a problem to start.

That is if he changes it often. If he doesn't know to check it who knows how long since its been changed.

I just really HATE dirty oil. or any fluid in my car for that matter.:)

Mazurfer 08-31-2008 07:12 AM

Please get the manual for your car and read the damn thing or sell the car. If you don't have a manual, then go register and download one for free at www.mazdausa.com in the owners section. WTF?

People like you is the reason why Rx-8 got such low rating.

Never check oil - oil level gone too low - Engine seized - blame the engine suck (not yourself) - whine about the car suck to the others - wrong news spread out

Ten days to cool off.

From my perspective it is a shame he didn't have 1000+ posts. If he had the mods wouldn't have even blinked.

Not impressed.

We recently had a "Don't scream search at the newbies" thread that did cut down on the "SEARCH NOOB!" responses. But it seems like there's been an increase in the number of insulting responses.

Maybe it's time for a "Don't hurl needless insults at the newbies" thread?

Although I hesitate to think of what the responses might shift to. :Eyecrazy:

i completely disagree with this. Our mods are equal opportunity haters and we love them for that.

bans have been handed out to people such as Mazdamaniac, Ike, and even I've been on the verge of a ban before.
You cross the line, you get punished. Simple as that.

Yes, there are some who are a bit harsh to the newbies but c'mon....after 5 years on this forum, you too would be sick of the same old question being asked for the millionth time. You can't spoon feed everyone information, that will not help this community grow.

ShellDude 09-01-2008 12:02 PM

c'mon jedi... apparently you didn't see some of the triad threads that were created yesterday. One in particular dropped the F bomb 5+ different times alone in the opening post, and that's not counting the other colorful expletives in the same message.

And it just went on and on from there, post after post. Yet their thread sits, just as prominent today as it was yesterday.

I've caught myself at least 3 times in the past 3 days from going off the deep end with n00bs... this thread was one of them... as a matter of fact all 3 had to do with oil so I understand what you're saying....

but a 10 day ban? How about a PM asking that the post be editted... Perhaps a warning. You ban someone with 1000+ posts, they're gonna come back. 1000+ posts is an investment.

You ban the guy with 10 posts and you'll probably never see him again... and this one was far less ignorant than some of the others we've let off easily recently... again I can think of similar thread where the guy didn't even know where his dipstick was that ended much "nicer" than this one.

So yeah, I'm not impressed.

One should always remain aware of the location of one's dipstick :) .
