oil metering pump

My omp isn't working and I got a cel claiming the omp is stoping my motor, so I can't rev past 3k and almost no power, can any one help me find a replacement or maybe any substitutes

First... you need the OMP... your car is in limp mode because its running without proper apex/side seal lubrication. Stop driving it completely if you haven't already.

Used OMP from Mazmart: $375

I know a friend of mine with a 2nd gen RX7 that removed his OMP and ran proper premix with so far success... but I don't think that will work in the rx8 because, like you mention, its computer monitored and controlled and will be in limp mode otherwise.

Replacement from Mazmart is probably your best bet. May want to try mazdatrix also.

It's worth trying to adjust the position switch before you determine the pump itself isn't working....

The pumps are stupid simple...so they likely don't actually fail outright very often. The odds are the PCM saw something it didn't like and freaked out :)

I could be wrong, but a heavy, religeously maintained premix and disabling of the OMP could be an option?

Ok Im greatful for the insights but how do I adjust the position switch or even do a omp delete

dannobre 05-26-2010 11:33 AM

Can't delete the pump...you already know what it dies without it working ;)

Try slightly loosening the screws that hold on the pump and rotate it a few degrees...re-tighten and try that....reset the PCM and see what happens

If you move it around both directions and it still doesn't work you can remove the pump..manually turn the pump back to zero..install the switch and try that...

If that still doesn't work try and find a used pump....I got one last time for $125 :)

This is an option
