Oil leak from oil burn line (?)

Hi Guys,

Just picked up my 04 velocity red RX-8 GT 2 days ago and the previous owner had told me that there was a recently oil leak detected by the techs while getting an oil change.

From what he gathered, it was possibly from the oil burn line which I believe feed crankcase oil into the rotor assembly for lubrication (not too sure if that is correct). He noted that it was a small part but was just difficult to get to to change it out. I then drove it ~290km back to my hometown as he said it was a slow leak (dumb idea?) and checked the oil and it seemed to be at a fine level.

I know this is very vague but I just wanted to see if I could get some pointers in the right direction or if someone has had a similar sounding issue before.

Specs are 168XXX on chassis, ~90k on recalled Renesis, catless.

Thanks

Oil burn line? You mean the oil metering lines. They are not easy to replace but not terribly hard. But if you are a rookie you might want to leave it to a professional.

I have a small slow leak on my 05 as well man it its coming from your omp lines or even your omp you can either replace it all including the lines. I have a guy that can make the SS lines if youd like. Or premix and keep checking the oil level. This would be the cheapest and easiest fix.

Thanks for the feedback.

After more research I hear that these lines may become brittle in cold weather which is probably what happened to mine... Would any mechanic be able to swap these lines out?

Also newbie question about premixing.. I picked up some Lucas 2-cycle oil and am planning on using this to premix. Should I be mixing it into a smaller container of gasoline then putting it in the tank then filling up? Or is it fine to just directly put a specified amount of it in the tank then fill up with gasoline? (assuming correct ratios)

Thanks
