Oil Leak
 

First of all, let me introduce myself. I'm a 23 year old spanish owner (angry owner) of a red rx-8.

My car is in the garage for about 20 days. The mechanics don't know what it happens to it, and I don't know what to do to sleep at nights.

I'll try to explain (if my english written skill let me, because I know it sucks):

I started smelling something like burned oil, but I thought it wasn't strange, because in the beginning, all rx-8 smells like hell.

But this smell that I had, was rather particular, It was more pestilent. The fact is that I am very lazy and always busy or doing something, so I didn't go to Mazda. I did nearly 4,000 or 5,000 km. (3k or 4k miles, I think).

The day I had to fill oil, I told the mechanic what happened. He also smelled like burned oil, and inspected the car. He found a loss in the engine. The engine was dripping and this oil felt in the exhaust, what caused the smell. No oil stain was never found under my car.

The mechanic explained me that the loss was found in the rear part of the engine, just in front of my steering wheel, and that it wasn't much important (¿?). They had to dismantle even all the gearbox.

After two weeks waiting, I called the mechanic, and he told me that they thought it was a little rubber oil retainer. I thought I was saved, and thanked the mechanic and offered him even my girlfriend. He told me they were going to change the retainer and test the car next day.

Three days or four, and I had no news. I called them again, and the mechanic tells me that they changed the retainer, but although the oil dripping had lessened, it hasn't dissapeared at all.

He did'nt want to talk about an engine failure, but I'm sure that the idea it's in his mind.



I don't know if anyone of you has experienced this problem, as the rx-8 was sold before in USA than in my country, any comments will be helpful.
