Oil cooler (and lines)
I have a 2004 mazda rx8. Automatic transmission. 86K miles
I recently had an oil leak and found that my lines to my oil cooler were the culprit so me and my buddy pulled them. Turns out its a dealer only part. Does anyone know where o get a new oil cooler that will work with my car or where to get new lines?. As ive said i dont know anything about cars. I really dont wanna spend 350 on 2 lines shorter than 2 feet |
DIY subforum is for when you have a set of instructions to post.
Thread moved to Troubleshooting and renamed to reference the lines rather than the cooler. check partout threads here, it's your easiest and cheapest bet. SS lines are available aftermarket, for about the same price as OEM ones, so if you end up having to spend the money, buy the SS ones that won't ever rust. |
thanks for the info do you know where i can go online to get the lines? i plan on posting a photo in a sec to show exactly what im talking about

Click the main banner, scroll down to the Classified section, then the subforum that has Parts For Sale/Wanted.
Read the buying and selling rules in the sticky first though. |

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n...810_232429.jpg i know they are corroded very badly.... my car is from ohio and ive never even touched these lines or knew they were there |
Yup, it's not uncommon in winter driven RX-8s. Mazda actually issued a recall (or TSB?) in Canadan because it was so common there. Less common in the US in general, but those that occur are usually in the northern states.

yes the recall i saw said it will not honor the recall in the usa.... gd it ohio is basically canada n e way...

Try checking out this thread Kamakazi: https://www.rx8club.com/trouble-shoo...ttings-183281/.
I had this issue surface three years ago with my 2003 build date ride and was able to get partial benefit from the Canadian TSB. It did take some negotiatiing as well as help from a dealer service manager who was on my side in the process. Three years later - the factory replacement lines are holding up great! Absolutely no signs of any issues with them. Good Luck! |
You could have the lines made at a hydraulic shop. The banjo fittings can be replaced with M18X1.5 -10 fittings ( four) and 2 lines made from -10 SS hose with -10 females on each end. You will need to go back to where the fittings exit the engine to figure out the lengths

@ voodoo i talked to my local dealership who ive been getting my work done at and he said that he will call his district manager monday to see if he can get the canadian recall extended to me in any way... but i severely doubt it... ive been looking on the for sale sections of the forum and some people are selling their oild coolers/lines. Would it be a good idea to get those? and obviously id weather proof them against rust and corrosion this time...
|
@ Dann i have tried to find manufactureing plants or businesses around to make the part but so far i havent been able to locate anything but i am still working on it
|
Now would be a good time to consider adding the second cooler too.
|
how much of a difference will it make?
|
She'll run cooler and you'll be one step closer to all 8s produced 2006 onward.
|
ill have to look into that
|
Follow RIWWP's advice too... that's how I got my 2nd cooler... granted it was hot but I didn't know that at the time and no one ever asked for it back :)
|
i contacted the dealer about the canadian recall and since im from ohio im hoping they see fit to give me something out of it... if not ive been talking to other people trying to find a used one even...
|
If u cant get it(most likely
Then it might be a good time to add a second cooler like others have sugguested, also throw a set of racing beat's ss braidlines into it If ur stock fitting is.not rusted to shit u can actually have a local hydralic shop that rebuilds oil cooler lines to makeone for u with ur old fittings, cost should be less than 40-50 bux, but again ur end fittings are rusted to shit so there is no point re using them. And a brand new mazda oil cooler line will rape ur saving |
yea im doing my best to try to find a person to make them or something.... im getting at my whits ends here
|
