Oil in cai

Soo after not moving my car for 2 days! I finally moved her and she felt veryyy strange no power down low and it felt weak..
It was backfiring a lot!

I removed the cai and i found oil in the pipe even my filter was saturated in oil.. Noow i cant figure out why this happened??

I have a oil catch can tha i got from fluid motorsports.. Now on the oil catch can there is oil on it... I tightened all the nipple and tightened the hoses.. The hose connecting from the intake nipple to the oil catch can did not have any oil in it.. Completely clean
now the hose that connects from where you put the oil to the oil catch can it had oil in it.. And the oil catch can used to have fluid swiching arund in there but i never drained it since it was much.. Now the oil catch can is dry insiide no fluid..
My question is how in the world did that oil get in there??
Any suggestions let me know!

I have mazdaspeed cai

Have you had any service done lately?

05rx8mazda 04-04-2009 05:38 PM

NOPE... i mean im due for a oil change..

Get rid of that catch can.

You don't need it.

Cap off the intake. Put a filter on the oil filler pipe. 5 bucks at auto parts store.

Those idiots fill your oil too fast or over filled it.

Clean intake tube, get rubbing alcohol and Q tips, clean MAF

The re-clean the MAF in another two weeks.

When you pour in the oil too fast it goes down the tube into the intake.

Or just put a filter on the catch-can and cap the intake.

Wait a second......maybe I mis-read something or didn't understand.

If the tube from the oil filler neck that runs over to the catch can has oil in it, and it's a fluid motorsports one, I can see how overfilling would dump oil into the catch can(and that hose), but there is no way it could get back to the intake unless the catch can was completely full of oil. :uhh:
Remember he said that his line coming out of the top of the catch can to the intake had no oil in it. This to me means that the oil had to already be in the intake before the catch can installation.
I'm assuming I read it right.............OP...........how about a pic! Do you know 100% that the oil wasn't already in the intake BEFORE you installed the catch can?

05rx8mazda 04-05-2009 12:41 PM

I am not 100% sure it was in there.. i removed the intake when i installed the oil catch can and there was no oil.. maf was clean car ran perfect..

yesterday it felt rough and idles rough... took the intake out and it had puddle of oil in there and my air filter is saturated in oil.. im cleaning it today with he k&n filter cleaner cleaning MAF as well.. strange thing is the catch can had oil in it.. but i checked it yesterday and it was bone dry..

dont you need a oil catch can when turbo??? i got it since i will be going that route in the next couple of week.s

thanks fo the advice fellas!!! that is what i wil be doing.. caping it off and putting a little filter.

It's what I did...........I don't run it back to the intake.

I still don't see how yours could've gotten like that given what you have said.

05rx8mazda 04-09-2009 01:19 PM

Yeah not i ran mine like that! Its no longer attatched to the intake line.. Umm one more thing after i removed teoil and cleaned the maf its still having he same symptoms when got the dea t pull the intake apart.. Stumbles at low rpm, and low power under like 2k rpm but after that power is still normal.. Gas mileage remains the same..
I tried cleaning the throttle body with some cleaner heled a bit but not much.. Im gonna see if sea foaming the motor will yied any god results.. Any idea on why it would be acting like that?

backfiring, oil intake, low rpm stumbles and lack of low-end power?

hard to start when hot possibly as well or no?

BACK FIRES YES!
OIL IN INTAKE YES
STUMBLES IN LOW RPM YES!
LACK OF LOW END POWER YES!
HARD TO START WHEN HOT NO!

IT HESITATES TO START BUT IT DOES IT WHETHER ITS COLD OR HOT! (ENGINE BENG DRIVEN FOR A HOUR HAS THE SAME HESIATION TO START AS IT DOES IN THE MORNING..
TAKE A EXTRA 2 CRANKS TO CRANK OVER.. NOT OVER EXXAGERATED..

I JUST SEA FOAMED THROUGH THE NIPPLE IM HOPING THAT WILL FIX MY ISSUE.. :uhh:

personally i prefer the actual mazda decarb engine cleaner, no experience with seafoam.

kevin.

05rx8mazda 04-10-2009 04:05 PM

i ended up buying the mazda cleaner since it had the long plastic fexible tube.. finally did the decarb and man did it huf and puff engine runs smoother and revs much smoother!!!! but the stumble at low rpm is still there its nothing major it just feeld like somethin may be clogged idk its hard explain..

it all happened after the oil got all in the intake system.. i have no CEL as of right now.
i just started to premix and the car runs a bit smoother.
my plugs and coils where changed abut 2k miles ago... i have the bhr coils but this didnt arise until the oil got in the intake.. i believe it was caused by the oil catch can.

im just going to drive it for a while longer if it keeps stumbling or any other problems im going to have to take it in to the dealersip.. hope they wont question cause of my intake and my coil, and my midpipe.... never said anything before but that was my old dealership back home in TEXAS

05rx8mazda 04-10-2009 04:06 PM

Ohh and power is normal.. It just had los of power under 4K rpm when it had oil in the intake system. now that its clean it picked up good as new! but its just the idle that has me a little worried, and the cranking up takes a while to crank over.......... ugh i wshi knew everyting about this motor.. mazda charges 120 to daignose

Any change in your car's performance?? Since we both had the "oil in the CAI" problem I have run a can of SeaFoam through mine, it is running pretty well except for a small hesitation or stutter between 4k-5k, but only at partial throttle!?

If it's floored it pulls cleanly to 9k without any hesitation at all. I don't get it.

Razz1 04-24-2009 11:59 AM

Scorpio, did you clean your air filter. If its K&N don't over oil it.

Did you remove the return oil hose and clean it?

Did you clean the MAF?

Port open up around that RPM.

Take off a cap on the intake tube. Spray some Sea foam in there when car is running.

Plus, your plugs are probably in poor condition.

Scorpio8 04-24-2009 03:31 PM

Razz, thanks for your comments/questions. I put a brand new filter element on my CAI after the oil issue. I cleaned the MAF sensor, although it didn't looked like it had any oil on it when I did.

The oil return hose....well I got rid of that and put a breather/filter on the oil catch can port, rather than run a hose from catch can back to intake(like i did originally).

I cleaned the oil out of the intake tube, but I haven't done anything to the throttle body.

I'll try your "seafoam in the intake tube" idea, and check the plugs, but I just put new plugs in last December.

Thanks again for the ideas.
