Odd sound when hitting 8k-9k RPMs
Hi,
I have an '06 Shinka, and from the day I bought it I have observed this odd noise when hitting the upper end of the RPM range. I think that the noise is originating --generally-- near the back of the glove box. The sound can best be described as heavy wind passing over a leaf or two, it's a loud fluttering noise. It's loud enough that I can hear it over the din of my radio which I typically set to around the #12 volume level. Can anyone suggest if this is normal behavior or if the might have an idea what might be the cause of it if it's not normal behavior? I think the cabin air filter is located behind the glove box, so maybe a leave or other debris has gotten in there and is only audible at high speeds...? Thanks in advance. |
check the filter behind the glove box

its the "sand in a blender sound".......alot of people get it.....my car does it from 3-4k...theory is its cavitation in the water pump...but im not sure.....

One can hit 8K-9K RPM's at a variety of different speeds......so does it do this at a particular speed only?

40-50mph range

Yes, it's a lot like "sand in the blender" type sound... It's time to replace my cabin air filter so I'm hoping once I do it, all will be revealed. |
I've noticed the same sound, but in my opinion, it sounds more like gurgling water. 8K+ RPM in any gear.

so have i. i have an auto. what could it be? |
I've had my 06 since new. It has always had a sound similar to what you described. The dealer initially said it was a known issue - related to flow through the heater core. They also said it was a known issue with no resolution.
Last trip to the dealer I asked about it again - he looked and Mazda has a fix for it now - something do with the piping for the heater core. Anyway, they did the fix under warranty and it solved the noise problem..... -Chak PS: Good description of the sound...the leaves in wind thing. |
In other words another TSB that should be announced?

It's a well known issue for some. If you do a search all kinds of stuff will come up.
