Occasional light *thump* when turning... rotors?

It feels like the car is going over a small rock or bump at times, but it happens frequently enough that I suspect it may be something in the suspension or the recently replaced rotors.

I am making this thread largely because I suspect the rotors that I replaced myself. I had to drill out the retaining screws because I stripped them. I got everything done fine but didn't replace the screws. I understand the common consensus is that they're only for holding the rotors in place during assembly.

Anyway, I notice one of rotors has now fastened to the hub, yet the other hasn't. I can push the bolts and the hub moves slightly underneath the rotor on the loose one. I have not yet bothered to take the rotor off completely to inspect closer.

This all comes into play when I'm driving as I feel an occasional light *thump* when turning. It's nothing jarring; just unexpected.

The wheel hubs don't feel loose the best I can tell. Taking a general look at the suspension and the sway bars seems like nothing is particularly out of line or rattling around.

Is this normal?

What really has me worried about this is last month I participated in an autocross event where people noticed sparks from my front right rotor (the one with the now "loose" rotor). This prompted me to replace the OEM rotors as they were just about worn out anyway. I also reverted to new OEM pads.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

this also happens to me when i have the wheel turned nearly all the way. mainly in parking lots. kinda like a slight bump bump bump.

Do you have aftermarket anti way bars or oem? I have the racing sway bars and one nut kept backing off a 1/4 turn causing a thumping noise. So i replaced the nut and added some loctite and no more thumping sound. I highly doubt that it is your rotors due to the fact the rotors are held in place by your wheels. I would double check your torque specs on the endlink nuts.

Endlinks are a common culprit on noises like that.

My suspension is completely stock.

I did take a closer look at the endlinks; not really sure if I could tell if anything was wrong with them. (all in one piece :dunno: )

I upgraded to an AEM CAI out of necessity (MAF sensor mount and baffle screens were falling apart)... maybe it's time to upgrade the sway bars! :D:

You wouldn't be able to see a problem. Try tightening them.
