No idea wtf is going on at cold start

So about an hour ago im leaving my buddy's house and when I go to start the car it takes a little longer to start than normal, then the rpm's climb a little bit and then drop off to below 1k rpms and it starts to bog a little and the rpms shoot back up to normal idling range and I get a flashing check engine light :wallbash: the flashing CEL then turns into a solid CEL. My car has 107k miles on it and I highly doubt the ignition coils have been replaced ever. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this? It also only happens with cold starting apparently. I let it warm up and drove it around and shut it off numerous times when it was warm and had no issues starting and was running smooth. Im really hoping I havent lost compression and its a misfire code or something. If anyone has had something like this happen please let me know and what you did to fix it. Thanks

PS- There may already be threads about this or similar to this one, but im too lazy and tired to search right now. Its 1230 and I have to get up early to take my car to get the trans rebuilt.

Get the ECU codes read for your answer. A missfire will cause a flashing MIL/CEL.

If it were my ride id perform a full tune up, the plugs sound like they were gas fouled, and just needed to be changed

That's what I was thinking and what a buddy of mine suggested it was as well. The CEL code was P0300 a misfire code.

mine is doing the same thing man, only on cold starts and it goes up to about 2k RPM misfires and then goes back to normal I replaced my spark plugs and it is still doing it. Im thinking engine coils or fuel pump maybe.

Let me know if you find out what the problem is.

well damn now i guess its the coils. Does anyone know what the price of the OEM coils cost compared to the BHR ignition? I know the BHR product will last longer but i'm just trying to compare the prices at this point. If there is a large difference I will go with the OEM coils but if there isn't much of a difference I will go with the BHR system

Also I moved my car to put my lawnmower in the garage and white smoke poured out of the exhaust. There was no blue or black in it, completely colorless. I have no clue what tht means so if anyone has suggestions im open to what the cause of this is as well.

EDIT: Just searched "causes of white smoke" and white smoke is burning coolant which means there is coolant in the combustion chamber and I may become one of the "new engine club members" FML

yep i took my car to the dealership and they said coolant was leaking into rotary number 2, covered under warranty though so I get a brand spanking new engine for free.

well i'm a little out of warranty, about 7k miles outside of warranty so looks like this motor is gonna be outta pocket. A buddy of mine says they typically give a 90,000 mile warranty on the new motor they install so it will be worth putting a new engine in my 8 rather than having it rebuilt.

I don't believe u get an extra warranty on the new motor, never heard of that but I might be wrong.

a friend of mine who has buddies that work at mazda say that they do, but who knows. He said they have been getting stricter on the warranties on new motors.

I mean I assume they would offer you, as a customer, a benefit to spending all that $$$ at the stealership for a new motor rather than getting someone to rebuild your motor. There is a guy 30 minutes from me that specializes in rotary rebuilds and if they don't give the warranty then i'll have my car towed to that guy and have him do my rebuild.
