New radiator and fans pulsing
 

After I put in a new Mishimoto radiator and fans/shroud I noticed a pulsing inside the cabin when the fans kick on. Its slow and steady, but gets a bit stronger when the fans kick on high (though that could just be my mind playing tricks on me).

When I reach up inside the front while the fans are running both fans definitely seem to be running in the right direction (air is being sucked on both sides). I can't hear anything funny from outside the car though.

The only hiccup I ran into was that the Mishimoto radiator's upper hose connection is angled upward as opposed to down like the stock connection. It causes the overflow tank to pinch down on the hose. I'm planning on getting a new overflow tank, but I'm not sure which size to get and I have no idea if that means I have to replace the windshield washer fluid tank as well since most people seem to mount the bottle where the stock washer fluid tank sits.

Why did you replace the rad to begin with?

Never hurts to get the thing colder? Slowly setting the car up for a decent track car once I can afford it? Pulling apart everything is fun? Dunno, I just like messing around with the car and knowing how its all made/ goes together.

You may have replaced a part that did not need replacing (and in fact replaced it with an inferior version.) I see no reason to "make things colder" until an issue arises, you may just cause more problems than solutions.

I did do research; its not an inferior part. In the end, I'm just curious about a solution. I'm not putting back in that crappy stock radiator.

And I see a reason... colder temperatures result in reduced strain on the engine over the life of it. Either way, I'm looking for help from someone who may know. I stand by my decision ;)

there are more references just like that... your fitment issues are the norm for that radiator. and as shown in dozens of other radiator threads... the OE one performs better than most of the non-custom aftermarket ones

Yup. None of those issues are what I'm talking about. Fitment was perfect, radiator was straight, no leaks, no problems at all (other than my genius friend snapping off a bolt and getting to use a bolt extractor). That was part of the reason behind buying their fans too, made fit-up a breeze.

The upper mount was slightly off, but put a screwdriver through the bracket and into the bolt hole in the body and a 4 yr old has the strength to align it perfectly.

The performance issues of some other radiators are because they use too dense of fins (3 row or something?) which blocks too much air from flowing through to the entire engine compartment (Koyo I think had that problem), Mishimoto's does not.

The pulsing sound could be a resonance - when both fans run (at different speeds) they would match frequency every second or two, causing a 'throbbing' buzz.

Sounds like you left off a couple of rubber isolation mounts off when you installed?

Sorry, this is what i was referring to. I realize how insignifigant this is but screwing up something that silly would stop me from buying anything from em.

@Paul: yea, it's a bit annoying, but to be fair the stock angle looks like it would impede an even flow, much less resistance this way, but it definitely would have been nice of them to mention a need to relocate the overflow bottle.

@ stealth: that sounds about right. And it is definitely a resonance thing. Hmmm... I was 99% sure I used all the rubber bushings, but that makes too much sense not to be the issue. Guess it'll all come back apart this weekend :'( If they're all there I guess I'll just have to see if there's somewhere I can add them to?... Eh, guess I'll see soon. Thanks
