AC belt ripped, pully ain't spinning. -_-

I was working on my RX-8 LIKE CRAZY to get it back on the road. (The transmission pan had to be replaced because of the massive hole it had)

As soon as I started it up, I saw an overabundant amount of smoke coming form the engine bay. Upon further inspection, my AC belt ripped completely & my compressor pully isn't spinning. Although, the peice all the way at the end is.

My question is - can I replace the bearing inside the compressor? What tools do I need to do this? Where can I find this bearing?

- John

so when it's off the outer part of the pully spins but the pump shaft does not? If the compressor shaft does not spin it's new compressor time.

The outer part spins freely without effort. It's just the pulley bearing that's screwed..

I'm not sure how I can separate it all.

Sweet.

Now I need to find out how I can pull the pulley/clutch off of the shaft.

This picture should help: Examining Air Conditioning Clutch Failures in the Field It may be a lot easier to pull the compressor and do it on the bench.

To pull the compressor you need to evacuate the system, to do that you need to send it to a professional. In which case, I cannot do at this time. Since the darn thing isn't in any driving condition.

I think pulling the pulley might be my only option.

Why can't you drive it? cut the belt off and go.
