My P0302 Misfire experience and solution
Just posting this P0302 experience of mine so it can help someone who doesn't have massive amounts of time to search.....
I have a 2005 RX-8 with 63,000 miles. I replaced the Ignition coils, wires and plugs at 60,000 during a tune up. With only 3,000 miles since my tune up, my car was starting to lose gas mileage and was taking more time getting started, whether on a cold or warm engine. Just recently, my 8 started to have problems in the street. While I was driving, all of a sudden, my engine started to sputter and the engine noise switched between two different tones. I had intermittent power and the revs were not smooth when accelerating from a stop. While stopped I would sometimes stall, my idle was rough. I did not get a CEL untill this had been happening for at least 1 hour. At first the CEL would blink and then it would be on steady. Restarting the car sounded like it was almost flooded and it would crank for a very long time. I got the CEL scanned at Autozone and it came up as a P0302 (rear rotor misfire). I swapped ignition coils on the rear rotor and my problem was solved. Turns out one of the coils I bought for my tune up were defective. So if you're having these symptoms I hope you find this post helpful. |
Yeah, a defective coil could easily do that. Do you mind sharing the brand of the coil and where you got it from?

RX8 P0302 misfire
Thanks - same deal here - 2005 RX8 73K - overfilled oil ran for a week ok as long as I parked nose uphill. Drained extra oil cleaned maf and air filter. Ran like a champ unless I parked nose down hill. Ran for another week parking nose uphill - wow it was running great. Thought... ok I'll try parking down hill (also after car wash) drove home. climb up last hill to house was rough - now doesn't start without misfire. checked spark on rear rotor = nothing - ordered BHR coil kit today.
Here are some photos in 4K: https://drive.google.com/folderview?...kE&usp=sharing - engine bay - accordion tube with oil in it (should I also clean UIM LIM?) - coils - coils and plugs removed - spark plug centers - do these look normal? - crankshaft sensor from under car Always in your debt for the great info on this site. |
