My daughter needs your help!!!

First of all thanks for the forum and now to the meat of the problem. We have a 2004 basic coupr with an automatic tranny. The car was great for the first 2 years or so and then it seems like all hell broke loose. When my daughter would start the car on some days she said it would idle rough and it would almost always stall at some point. I could never duplicate the problem so I passed it off as just a once ot twice thing. Then it started to happen more and more often and she was getting very upset that her dream car was becoming a nightmare. She took it to 2 different dealers in town and they both doubted there was a problem but changed the spark plugs and even changed the plug wires and made sure she had the latest recall completed but it continued. When she moved to her college town it started happening again and this time the new dealership kept the car for a week or so and told her they had found some problems and had it fixed. She drove it off the lot and it died within 5 miles and it took them 3 hours to come pick her up. They called me a few hours later and told me nothing could be found wrong on the car. I told them to keep looking. It finally died for them and they told me that Mazda told them to replace the engine because of a compression problem. Well, she got the car back today and drove it and it idled very rough and almost died several time. Not sure what to do now since the dealing ship now says it is fixed and the idle ing rough is someting new. Anybody have any ideas

I say find a new dealer. Have they checked the coils? I had a similar problem when I first got my car and it was the coils. Also, does she shut it down cold?

It is possible the the ecu is just learning the new engine & it will settle down after 5-6 startups - so don't jump to conclusions just yet .....

wow,

reread that... yes brettus is correct.. it takes several drive cycles for it to settle down.

Yep, I agree with that.

yea let ecu work it self out a bit.

if it still happens, even though mazda denies this to the HILT, the stock cat can at times become clogged, and/or broken very easily, you may want to try a new cat/midpipe/hiflo cat, if you have tried every thing else. its most likely not the cat, but if you tried everything else, id say give it a shot.

hope it works out

Try resetting the E-shaft sensor.
