MIL Light With no Codes Stored or Pending ???
 

I recently completed rebuilding my engine and just installed it. Upon starting it up I had a MIL light, for the AVP being in the stuck open position. Well needless to say I was off when I had initially clocked the gear. So after fixing that I stared the engine up again and the MIL light illuminated within a minute or so. I checked the codes and my scan tool states there are no codes stored and there are also no codes pending. So this is my question... what would cause this? I've read the following could be the issue:

A) Dealer Specific Code relating to the OMP
-If this is in fact true, I've pulled all the data to check the wiring harness and switches. Now it is important to note that there was no MIL light like this when the engine came out and that OMP was treated the like holy grail while during removal, storage, and install.

B) Dealer Specific Code relating to some other system
-Not sure what else the relatively expensive scan tool (~$200) won't pick up. If this is the case recommendations for a scan tool that will work with the RX-8 are welcomed as I plan to own this care for a very long time.

It's a 2007 RX-8 with no mods done to it except the oil pressure mod.


I forgot to mention, the engine starts wonderfully each time, every time. I haven't road tested it however.

IMO the OMP is the prime suspect. Possible wiring got pinched during the engine install? Was the sensor separated from the pump at any point?

I can't recall if I did. I think (91.282% positive) I may have removed the switch when cleaning the housing. I will check that when I get home today.

Yeah if you separated the motor/sensor thing, there is a chance you put it back together out of phase with the OMP flow controller. So when it selftests, it finds the sensor going out of expected range.

Problem fixed. It was in fact the OMP switch sensor. Adjusted it a few degrees and system is running perfect.
