Midpipe+ 02 sensor spacer= no CEL?
hey guys i searched the threads and i cant find the exact answer i was looking for so ill post up.
i have a 04 MT 8 with 35k miles, K&N Typhoon intake, and a magnaflow catback. im looking to go to a rx7store.net catless midpipe, and by re installing my 02 sensor with a spacer like the ones found on ebay etc for 20.00 has anyone had any experience with these. i want to do it but i dont want a CEL, the spacers description states it is for high performance exhaust with no or a high flow cat for the rear 02 sensor. it basically threads into the catless midpipe and then u thread the sensor into the spacer. i just want to make sure it works. thanks in advance!! -Ryan http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...9/SL730301.jpg |
works if your lucky.....id say 1 in 50 cars
|
not sure if this will work or not
|
More likely to work on 04's...but like chance said about 2%
|
could always get the mazdamaniac cobb access port and it will mask your cell
|
nobody has any experience with the 02 spacers?
|
Didn't work for me
|
I didn't use a spacer but I installed a spark plug fouler which was supposed to have some of the same effect. It was a trick used on MS Protege's. Instead the PCM reported a CEL that the front and rear O2 sensors were reporting inconsistant Air/fuel ratios.
The best way to deal with it is to use the Cobb Accessport to have the CEL removed. Otherwise if you have to have emissions checked they will fail you for the Check Engine Light. I drove around with a mid-pipe CEl for about 2 years and traded it for a TPMS sensor. |

Yes. We do. As Dan said, it will most likely work with the '04, but even then with only a very small success rate. If you are lucky, you might have one of the '04s that just isn't all that sensitive (like mine) and not need the bung extender. If it does set a CEL, I'd say its one in 50 or so that you can extinguish it mechanically. Then again, since you are not interested in performance, just putting a piece of tape over the light will probably do just as well and has a 100% success rate. |
good to know. guess its going to be a roll of the dice when i install it

Well, if a spacer doesn't work, then pickup an O2 simulator (essentially just a resister that goes in place of the rear O2 sensor that causes a "good" reading to be sent to the computer). They're usually around $70 or so, tops.

Those don't work on the RX-8. This isn't 1992. |
The computer is way too smart for that...it alters the A/F ratio and expects the the front sensor and the rear to change in a logical manner....when it doesn't it blows the whistle so to speak. Because the front is a current based WB and the rear is a voltage based NB it isn't so easy to fool like the old systems with just a narrowband
:) |
im now looking at a SR motorsports high flow cat instead of a catless midpipe. hear it still sounds good and shouldnt throw a light, might need the spacer though.

That will work for a while :) A lot of the less expensive high flows burn out....
shows it as 599.00 on srmotorsports website.... doesnt seem cheap to me lol! but i try and look for deals as it is.... got my typhoon intake for 180 new, and my magnaflow catback for 600 new. im frugal so to speak but i still want good brands hahaha |
Cheap does NOT equal inexpensive.
|
ive had my turbo xs midpipe on for about month now...just plugged in the sensor and no CEL as of yet
