Messing with the clutch engangment got me a constant parking brake light?

Yesterday I was playing around with the clutch engagement setting (those bolts above the clutch). Anyway, I accidentally unscrewed the metal piece that bolts into the clutch pedal and goes into the firewall. After noticing how much I f***ed up, I got the chance too see a tiny little droplet of clutch/brake fluid seep out. That is all, just one tiny drop. After that I shoved the clutch engagement piece into place, and drove home with no problems.

Now today, my parking brake light is on! And this happened some 15 miles later in the day! Turn the car off, and within 30 seconds of driving I'll get it again. I told my predicament too a car friend, and he think that air might of leaked itself into the clutch line, and since both the clutch line and brake lines use the same liquid, maybe I have air caught in the line?

Anybody ever done something so dumb? I plan on bleeding my brakes tomorrow, I just don't want too go into something if hopefully somebody can confirm my doubts about why my parking brake light is on...

Also, I have brake fluid. It's a smidgen above minimum.

put more in, and check for leaks again..

beers

okay, found the leak. It's where the clutch engagement piece goes into the firewall... I'm leaking ALOT of brake fluid really quick, and the interior of my car is getting doused in this fluid... How do I fix this leak? I have no idea why the hell it's leaking... This is frustrating...

EDIT: Leaking stopped. Note too self: Mess with the clutch engagement when the sun is out. Apparently the clutch engagement piece was facing the wrong direction...

cool! the leaking didn't stop... I really don't know what the hell too do...

pics?

It's the clutch engagement piece that goes into the firewall. Is straight, then takes a slight angle change half way through.

I just went too a dealership, explained my problem, the guy told me that I'll need a whole new slave cylinder...

arg

edit: bleeding the brakes soon, we'll see if the parking brake light goes away...

Also, I've messed with the clutch engagement piece... It seems too be leaking a lot less... I wouldn't be posting my problems if any of this made any sense, but having brake fluid douse your interior never really does... I think the piece just needed too be situated in it's stock position so the grommet gets a good seal...

It sounds like you pulled the piston out of the cylinder, and when you replaced it, you didn't get installed deep enough. When the clutch pedal returned to rest, it pulled the piston out of the cylinder just far enough to let fluid by. Assuming the seal isn't damaged, adjusting it in should fix the issue, which you seem to have discovered.

removed the master clutch cylinder, and found the piston in two pieces :/

kristopher_d 10-13-2007 01:45 AM

Damn, that sucks.

TrochoidMagic 10-13-2007 04:00 AM

^^read on top of post. dude, you must have pulled the piston back too far and disengaged the piston seal out of the master.
and read the secong reply...you lost a lot of fluid fast. so my only suggestion is that YOU MUST GET ANOTHER MASTER!

even if it goes to normal, your piston seal can still be cut.

i think i know why you messed with the clutch. i thought the pedal and stroke is really short on this car. if you thought the same, then its why you messed with it to begin with. but you hve to know that its only safe to mess and look carefully to adjust ONLY its pedal height... it hasn't bother me that much and i'll just live with it. also its not a cable typr or any other type clutch. so adjusting the stroke is near impossible. the throw will not change...maybe only the height of the physical pedal... don't know, didn't bother.

but yeah, get another master clutch cylinder. and though the original one is good. have it out completely and just keep it and rebuild it and put in the new seal with clean brake fluid and have it for back-up.

your original one as of right now is DONE!

TrochoidMagic 10-13-2007 04:04 AM

oops. read further.

and you shoulda went to the dealer if ur car wa s under warranty and say" hey, my brake light is on,can you check my brakes? and my clutch has been feeling funny lately. can you check it out? oh, for some reason, my floor mat is always wet."

Keef 10-13-2007 11:34 PM

go too the dealer without a cat, and sounding like a gerble on steroids.... Uh... No! I have a CEL, not only because the rear O2 sensor senses there is not cat. But because there is no rear O2 sensor. My "supercat" melted that along with it's flaming death...

Anyway, the story went like this

-Pour brake fluid in reservoir
-master clutch cylinder acts as waterfall
-no more brake fluid in reservoir
-brake fluid on driver floor :(
-grab paper towel
-ensue the word "f***"

I called two dealers. They both listed the same price for the part 80 something. Except the Munday Mazda on 1960 and 45 gave a total charge of 130 while a dealership on 59 close too Kingwood (about 20 miles away) gave a total charge of 100. Both of the prices being overnight delivery. "Munday sucks", I think I just might quote myself on that.
