Mazdaspeed CAI

Can a Mazdaspeed CAI cause a P0411 code? The dealership is convince that it is the cause of this check engine light so won't go any further.

Offhand this would seem to be an unlikely relationship to me. P0411 is an emissions related issue so the dealership needs to address it if your still covered under emissions warranty. Also, if your CAI is truly a Mazdaspeed part then this excuse would not fly even if there is some relationship between the two that I am not thinking of - your CAI is still a Mazda factory part.

That was my exact toughts as well but they wouldn't do anything. The service manager said they had their best tech on it, which scares me. I think I will have to investagate a little more into the emissions warrenty laws in canada. And the intake is definatly a Mazdaspeed intake. I think the car came with it new as part of a pefremance/power package that Mazda canada was having the year it was sold.

I agree ,I have had a Mazdaspeed CAI on my 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 for years now and have never had a single issue with the car or any issue with the CAI EVER. THE Mazdaspeed CAI seems bulletproof and still works great to give a little boost to engine performance. As a Mazda warranted part they should never refuse to work on your car because of it. You may need to call Mazda USA in California to set your dealer straight on this.

P0411 could be caused by a vacuum leak. if there is something wrong with the installation of the MS CAI you could have a leak that is causing the code, or it could be a problem with the air pump.

short- yes it could be.

Yeah but that should bring up a whole bunch of other codes (the SSV wouldn't work). I have also checked the operation of the pump and valve and they seem to be working. Besides this is something they could check easily but they refuse to look at the car since I have the CAI on, and I quote "it would be a waste of time to try and diagnose the problem with the cai on". I will check if there is a leak again but I can't find squat. Really I think it is either the sensor/computer or the cat.

it IS possible to have a vacuum leak that would cause the code and still have a working ssv

But off the air-intake? Doesn't the ssv work off the same line and vacuum chamber as the secondary air injection. I can see a leak after the pump or on the pump, but as far as I can tell there is still vacuum to the air control valve (pulled the hose at the air control valve and it was sucking air while the pump was on). The three hoses that connect to the air intake (according tube on stock) i believe one goes the jet metering, one to the oil metering nozzle, and the last one on the 04-05 goes to the oil filler not sure where it goes in a 07 maybe somebody knows.

But my biggest problem is that the dealership won't even look for a leak or try working on it because they want it back to stock before they start working on it. They really think that the intake is causing the problem but not by a vacuum leak, they think that the air being brought into the engine and combusted. The tech also said that the plumbing for VFAD and my lack of it was also a contributing factor.:banghead:Yes I checked and the plug is on the upper intake manifold.

I suggest switching it back and prove it to them..

I have swapped my stock intake to an AEM CAI a couple times (currently on) and never having that code show up. I have had the 2070 code for a 'stuck' ssv that was subsequently replaced while using the stock intake.

I've fought the service manager before and it is frustrating. I feel ya. :wallbash:

With few options that you have just change it back (headache, I know) and just get it in for them to fix. Then you can just cruise looking for the ladies, not a code.

I would but I don't have a stock intake to install. I bought the car and it came with the MS CAI in it. I am also pretty sure it came that way off the showroom floor as a package mazda was offering at the time.

So I may have a stock intake in line to put in the only problem I have now is getting the hoses off the tubes (the ones that attach to the according tube on stock). I have tried removing them to check them but they are stuck on there pretty good. Anybody have any tricks to get them off?

Would need a install guide for the stock intake since I have never taken one out before. I will keep searching but if somebody knows let me know.

thanks

if you have the polished version.. rip the aem sticker off and go to staples office depot etc etc. buy printable sticker paper.

go on google and type in "mazdaspeed" get the logo with just the lettering. bring the logo into photoshop and change the color from black lettering to cyan. rescale it to about....from what ive seen in the pictures... maybe.. 1/4-1/2inch by 2 inches. Look at a real mazdaspeed intake where they placed the sticker and replicate it.

put the stock airbox on, bring it to the dealer WITH instructions in hand so they dont have to look up the part number on the intake to figure out how to install it (which would tell them it isnt a mazdaspeed intake)

claim it is mazdaspeed and have them install it. and hope they take your word for it

i think some dealers refuse mazdaspeed parts because the dealership didnt install them. Ive heard this before, but since aem is the same as mazdaspeed, there no hurting anyone except the big corporation of mazda which doesnt deserve my money especially with no new rotary being announced.
