I have an 06 Mazda RX8 and my catalytic converter was cut out and stolen. Anyway I ordered a new one and am in the process of installing it, how ever it just seems like the gap may be too big between the muffler and CAT. How much space should be in between the muffler and Cat once the other side has been tightened up. Or will the gap close when I tighten the two bolts. I have about an inch and a half gap.

 

Sounds like maybe your hangars aren't hanging right?
I always spray all the rubbers with PB Blaster first.
Makes everything move around a lot better.

Did you buy an OEM cat, or just a 'direct fit'?
Consensus is a new replacement cat that cost less than $1000 isn't going to last.
