Major Power Lose
I dont know what went wrong but the car seems to really struggle al; the way to 5k rpm's... Anyone have similiar problems or any idea what it could be... could this be some kind of vacuum leak? Im all up for opinions... I am going to mazda early this week
|
Sounds like a clogged cat or the grim reaper has come for your engine. Still under warranty?
|
lets hope so... i dont have any mods to the engine and my engine should be covered to 60k miles
|
Engine to 60K, Cat I think is 100K.
|
the basic warranty is 60k or 4 years right? just making sure i just bought my 04' rx8 a month ago
|
4 years 50k is the normal warranty. The power train is covered for 5 years 60k. Cats are covered for 100+k due to EPA mandates.
|
yeah, sounds like the cat, or your engine. the cat being more likely.
good luck |
coils

I just replaced my coils, plugs & wires less than 4k ago and I have power loss...marble in can sound, it stalled out on me again this morning at a stop sign....all in all runs like crap. It could be anything but it seems from what I have read on here that the least thing that goes wrong with our cars it automatically assumed that it's the coils... I have continuously had this problem since I bought my car and every trip to the dealership turns into $500 bill and no resolution or explaination, call MNAO and they recommend taking the car back to the dealership... go back to dealership they can't find the problem......

my lease is up in january, i've never had a problem with my 8, but based on others' experiences, this freaks me out. even if it's worst-case and i need a new engine, apparently there's no guarantee the new one will do better!!! i'm thinking about the ms3... |
the dealer told me Thursday MNAO is not addressing these problems they know about them and don't know what it is or how to fix it. They are currently dealing with the no/slow start issues and if you are out of warranty then MNAO will not cover any of it, no matter how many times you have taken your car in with these issues. I have taken mine in for these issues since 18K and now have 80K so MNAO will not do anything for me. The manager is supposed to call me when a regional rep is in the area ( which I have been requesting for over a year ) however he doubts it will make MNAO sway on the decision to help with repairs or anything else. So, my goal it to get rid of the car ASAP! The first reasonable offer I get the sob is gone!!! I've been patient for over 3 years... my patience has run out. Good luck to the rest of the RX8 owners.

Bran,
What year is your car? I feel your pain. I'm on my second engine and had my coils, spark plugs, O2 sensor, MAS replaced before it ran right. I live in fear of being stranded. |
season for dying rx8s or someshit? it seems so many people have this happening lately
my case is the coils died on me........ |
Well, I have been out of the country for most of the last year and a half and have been catching up. Aparently there was a recall a year ago where you could get the whole engine replaced. Of course, I am now at 63,000 miles, and in the last 2 days the car has gone from fine to almost undrivable. While accelerating there are all kinds of noises coming from the engine, and every so often while cruising, or stopped at a light, or braking, (IE, anytime) the engine gets VERY rough, loses power, and stalls out as soon as I let go of the gas. If it was just loss of power I'd say coils since that happened to me a few eyars ago, but this definitely feels a lot more serious. Taking it in tomorrow morning, and I fear for news.
*sigh* |

I live in fear of being stranded. 1 ) I'm tire of losing money due to being broke down ( outside sales ) you'd be surprised about the kind of things that go on in your neighborhood that you normally don't see because your at work. 2 ) I'm tired of every trip to A dealer ( I'm on #3 ) it's this that or the other and a bill anywhere from $500 to $2000. Remember the movie "Money Pit" 3 ) I biggest fear is the car stalling on a major hwy and being ran over. 4 ) I had been running the BG44K & BGMOA as of last week. The car had been running better meaning hasn't stalled on me for a few days but today I pulled out onto the hwy when I got a break.... I should have had plenty of time to get up the road however I couldn't get the car over 30 MPH before A 3500 Dodge dually had to swerve to the other lane between 2 other vehicles to keep from running me over. How can I even think of trading or selling the car to get rid of it knowing someone else and possibly one of the more common 16 - 18 yr RX8 buyers are going to end up buying the car? If I turned the news on and seen a kid dead in a car accident I would assume the car wouldn't go & lost power or stalled out and I would feel responsible, yet MNAO don't seem to give a shit one way or the other! |

And I think that's wonderful however for the good many of us owners that have had nothing but reported problems I believe MNAO should make some effort to fix the issues.
When was the last time that you told everybody about something good happened to you, you probably did, but probably to few of the closest friends/family members. Bad stuff? wow, you probably gonna call everybody, even the ones you havent seen for the last 20 years. Yep, thats how human works. So in your case ... how about go to another dealer ? |
Well, considering that the problems in the recall describe my issue perfectly, I am really hoping that it's related and it doesnt become a fight, as some folk on the forums where able to get the work done. Recalls dont expire with warranty so they have to honor it anyways. The problem is I fear they are going to try to wriggle out of it and make me pay for a new engine. Should I be wrong I will gladly post glowing reviews about how painless it all was, but my previous experience with MNAO and warranty work is otherwise. And the fact that I have serious engine problems on a car that has been very well taken care of, and is only at 63000 miles, is in and of itself troubling.

And since your near Georgia, why don't you take it to our resident experts down there? One of them works at a dealership. Get the true story and get it fixed correctly. Sorry, it's a unique car and engine. Only a few good mechanics out there. |
