major issues HELP

so to start with my car sounds really deap until 4,400 and then it sounds like it cracks vtec because the enjoy totally picks up but then once it starts going it falls on its face hard. and it will do it over and over again, pick up, fall on its face, pick up, fall on its face... and my fuel consumption is WAY up...

so far i have changed all of the coils, no help.
i have new plugs and wires coming and should be here on friday so i will change those but i dont know if there was anything else it could be.

is there any possibility of it being the fuel pump? If so how can i check the fuel pressure and what should it be at?

ANY help would be amazing,i just want my car back to normal!

are you getting the CEL light on the the dash if so check the codes, they should give you an idea what is going on. You can get the codes checked at most part stores for free

rotomaven 06-04-2011 08:39 PM

allready did and all it was was a minor evap and multiple misfires

rotomaven 06-05-2011 12:44 AM

a friend suggested a possible clogged cat?

Mazurfer 06-05-2011 07:26 AM

So you changed the coils without doing the plugs? (Bad move)

How old are the plugs that are in there?

Think you need to wait until you get the new plugs/wires in there and then see what happens and take it from there.

If you want to check the CAT, you can pull it loose at the front, kinda move it to the side a little and peer in with a flashlight and see if the honeycomb is still intact. The other way is to go for a drive at night, then come home and see if it's glowing...............but I don't really want you driving the car too much until you get the plugs in there as this should've been done at the same time as the coils.

i can go change the plugs right now, just couldnt when i did the coils bc the car was too hot. i just have to wait for the plug wires to come on friday. should i give that a shot?

I hate driving it right now too, but its my only mode of transport so it only to work and home...

could be a fuel pump problem.

If fuel consumption is way up, then IMHO it sounds like it's working to me.
Usually fuel pump issue shows up at less than 1/4 tank and after running for awhile(at temp). This is because fuel is used to cool the pump and when it happens, I don't think it surges?
I think fuel just shuts off until pump cools off by having car off X amount of time.
I haven't experienced it myself, but that's what I've seen on this site.
That doesn't mean it's not a fuel pump problem....or a dirty sock, but think you need to get the others out of the way first.

Yeah you could go ahead and change the plugs, my guess at this stage is that you changed the coils(you had at least one bad one) and that resulted in fouling a plug.
Wires don't go bad that often, but they do go bad.

As an FYI........not saying you have done it, but.........when someone drives around on either bad coils or plugs ignoring a misfire code for long periods of time, unburnt fuel gets into the CAT where it tends to breakdown the CAT..........leading to................clogging! While waiting on wires and after doing the plugs, I'd look at that CAT. Just my two cents.

The problem you're having with your car sounds similar to mine. I, unfortunately, can't offer any help on the issue. I have noticed that my problem only happens when the fuel tank is below half full. I don't know a lot about cars but I'm guessing it must be something to do with the fuel?

heres how the plugs looked after i changed them. havent driven it yet, gonna wait until a little later when i head over to a buddies house to check the cat.

Are all four of those you took out trailing plugs?
I can't really tell, but they look like it.

rotomaven 06-05-2011 05:53 PM

no there are two leading and two trailing. i checked on the plugs themselves for the l and t. but when i pulled them out i couldnt help but notice they seemed the same and were different than the brand new ngk plugs i just got

rotomaven 06-05-2011 08:15 PM

well... plugs didnt fix it. gotta still check the cat

rotomaven 06-06-2011 01:47 AM

Okay, just checking as it was hard to tell from the pics.

I know you found it was the CAT as Easy suspected first, so at least you now know.
