Magical compression improving product
 

So I was at Advance picking up some parts when I noticed a bottle of "Rislone Compression Repair with Ring Seal"

The online description is as follows:
Rislone Compression Repair with Ring Seal is a concentrated proprietary blend of high-shear and premium polymers developed for higher mileage engines that are suffering from decreased or uneven compression. Low compression can be caused by normal engine wear and decreased sealing between the piston rings and cylinder walls. The non-dispersant olefin copolymers fill scratches & grooves in cylinder walls to increase and stabilize compression in all cylinders. Compression Repair renews worn engines, rebuilds compression, restores lost power and repairs engine blow-by. In addition, Compression Repair helps vehicles pass emission tests.


My question is - is this some nonsensical product; would it help improve compression on an rx8?
Anybody ever try something like this?

No idea if it works, though.
Sounds like the too good to be true story.
Someone with known failing compression numbers would have to try it and see.

The problem with piston engine compression failure and rotary engine compression failure are essentially the same as far as this product is concerned. Both it's the sealing hardware that wears away, NOT the surface it seals against. And no fluid can ever add metal to piston rings or apex/side seals.

Even if it could actually 'fill grooves' in the iron or aluminum piston cylinder walls, it certainly won't re-chrome rotor housings

Agreed. I assume any benefit made by adding a film to the walls would be temporary. I'd be curious to try it for a comparison but don't want to pay for 2 compression tests. The dealer near me wanted $140 for the test.

It's an additive that makes the oil thicker, hence it works for the short term.
