Low speed rubbing noise?

06 rx-8 with 19k miles. Ive started to notice a rubbing noise when i pull out of parking places at very low speeds. Im pretty sure its comming from the area around my left rear tire and goes away as soon as I pass 5 or 6 mph. I cant figure out what it is and its driving me nuts. Maybe the parking brake is sticking? :Wconfused

Possibly brakes. Was it in storage for any period of time?

No storage, drive it at least 10 miles a day

I have noticed the same thing... I didn't know if maybe it was a wheel bearing or something like that, but every time I got done driving the rim was cool to the touch... so I, like you, am completely confused!

Could be tire noise. The RE040s will make a noise like that.

I cant quite figure it out. I think its either a bearing or maybe the parking brake. Also I think I notice it more when my car is turning rather than driving straight.

It's the brake shield.

Did you put after market rims on your car? I noticed mine did the same thing when I bought and installed my rims. If you did, and your rims are not rubbing, then this should go away soon just like it did with me.

2 Questions:

Does it only happen if you're making a slight turn, say out of a parking lot?

Does it only happen if you've driven say 30+ miles?

My car has been doing this lately. It's something to do with the differential from the searches I've done. Sadly I haven't had time to bring my car into the dealer. So owners have had luck with syntetic diff. fluids.

I have noticed this tire scrubbing noise from the rear tires only occurring when at very low speeds and then only when turning. It never happens if going straight ahead. It seems to be noise from the tires in the rear. I tend to think it is caused possibly by the limited slip differential.

I don't think it is serious, but I to would like to be certain what is happening!

My car does this too. I'm taking it in soon to be looked at by the dealer. Warranty!

ur rear tires could be rubbin against ur struts...........that could be ur issue right there, or it could be an LSD issue, u ever had the rear diff serviced..............n if so did they put a limited slip additive in it?

I've also had the same problem. And it only happens when I'm pulling out of a parking spot or turning into one, or sharp turns at low speeds.

I have to go to the dealer for some other problems I'm having, so I'm planning on checking with them, because it didn't do it when I first bought the car.
