Lost horsepower
 

Just bought a 2004 rx8. It runs great and I knew it was supposed to have around 220-230 horsepower so I took it to a dyno. It dynoed at 154hp. How can I get that lost horsepower back??

your confusing crank hp with wheel hp.

average is about 170 to 180 whp.

may want to check your ignition coils too.

yup, the hp figures you read on window stickers or reviews are always measured at the crank.
Drivetrain loss gives you wheel horsepower.

Stock 8's do 170-80, some go as high as 200hp but it all depends on what type of dyno.
mustang dynos read lower then dynojets.

true, if your reading is accurate and it was a mustang dyno, it looks right.

I don't know why people are SO obsessed with HP figures.

The car was fun as hell when you thought it was 230 hp, right?
now some machine tells you it's only 154 hp.
Does that make the car any less fun?

Show us your dyno sheet, what your dyno was and then go do a search on dyno plots for others here and see what a normal dyno plot looks like.

154hp is a useless number to us by itself.

edit: That being said there are two common culprits that rob hp on the RX8. Bad ignition coils and a bad cat. converter. The dyno plot will show if you have either of these problems.

I can't remember at the moment exactly what it is, but isnt there an issue with
the DSC system and dynos that can also cause issues? I remember reading on here people commenting about disconnecting sensors on the rear wheels while on the dyno.

nope.
All you need to do is hold down the DSC button to disengage it.

Ok, just thought I'd throw it out there. Either way I don't have to worry about it - I have a base '05 and therefore am DSC-less.

according to some on here - it is very dangerous to drive without DSC - you should have crashed by now :lol:
