Loss of pwer and strange engine noise

Hi,

I have been having engine intermittent rengine problems for a whil;e but it has recently got worse. When i drive the car hard at all there is a significant loss of power and i have to floor the accellerator and wait a few seconds for a response. When the revs get to around 5000rpm or higher the enginer makes a scratching noise like there is something loose inside the engine and if i push it any more it feels like it is about to explode and the whole car vibrates.

If i switch the engine off and leave it for a while it returns to normal but as soon as i push it a bit the problem returns

The car passed its MOT a few days ago with no problems.

I'm in the UK btw, does anyone know if the new longer engine warranty applies here. The car is a 2004 and has done around 33000 miles.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

igniton coils. you should change also the plugs if they havent been done in the last year and the plug wires too if the are original.

Would this cause the scratching noise at high revs? The car had a service and Passed its mot less than a week ago, is this not something they would check?

Some mechanic i asked said i may have some internal engine damage, is this likely??

Scratching noise might be MIAC(Marbles In A Can), do a search on that.
Does it sound like it's coming from the glovebox area? Did it always make this noise?

First, you really need to change the coils, plugs, and possibly wires like was already stated and then go from there. Hopefully you haven't taken out you CAT already.

It does sound a bit like marbles in a can buit it's not coming from the glovebox area, it's just coming from the front, couldn't specifically say where. It hasn't always makes this noise, used to Rev to 7500 with no problems and felt and sounded smooth. I'm looking into getting all that replaced just now, hopefully it'll be copvered in the warranty i bought!
