Loss of power!!!

Hi Guys, I hope there is someone out there who can help me. I have to be the most unlucky guy in the world, I recently bought my RX8 (Oct 09) after about a month it started getting sluggish on one particular journey, I checked the obvious things ie Oil and although it was fine i decided to take it for an oil and filter change. After this was done i made the said journey and it remained the same! The journey is fine until i get to a hill to climb once half way up the power dies as if your in 4th doing 10MPH! even if i gear down to 3rd and i'm doing 30MPH there is still no power. This comes and goes for the rest of the journey, one minute its sluggish the next its fine again. As soon as i get to my destination turn the car off and then on again a few minutes later the car is back to normal as if it never had happened.

I then decided to take the car to Mazda because after all they made and surely they know what they are doing, i was wrong. it took two days and a big bill for them to tell me it needed new engine after only 35000 miles!!!! They checked all coils, Spark Plugs & Plug Leads. Catalyst and Monalith?? Checked diagnostics, Nothing found. All sensors and O2 sensor and then did a compression test when car had been thrashed and was red hot to get these results -

FRONT 6.0 - 6.0 - 6.2 TO 7.0 - 7.0 - 7.3
REAR 4.7 - 4.5 - 4.6 TO 5.6 - 5.7 - 5.7

They didn't do compression when cold, i don't know what these results mean but i take it they suggest new engine but my confusion is how can it be mechanical when if i turn it off and on again after this has happened it resets the car and the car drives normal? All mazda keep saying is give us £4000 and we can fix it.

If it is the engine does anybody know of a Rotary specialist in the Scarborough area that i can speak to as to a price for a rebuild or even better has anybody had this problem or something similar that they can shed a light on this matter!

Yours Confused :dunno:

Richard

I believe with those compression numbers, you are indeed in need of a new engine. Not sure if Mazda's 100k 8yr engine warranty is available over there? I'm guessing you are in the UK?

Forgot to mention that my RX8 is a 2004 53 Reg

Have you tried to contact the headquarters for Mazda and tell them your story? In the USA they increased the warranty on all RX-8 rotary engines to eight years 100K miles. I believe they have paid for the engines and you pay the installation in some cases out side the USA. Its worth a try...let us know how it goes.

Does anybody know of a link for this 8 year warranty on ALL RX8's in the USA so i can print it off and write to Mazda with a copy of that in, because in the UK they have done this but only on new RX8's not on the old ones

Thanks
