Load resistor on LED third brake light

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, have a problem. I know there are already a lot of forums on load resistors but none of them have helped me. I have a Spyder smoked LED third brake light in addition to the 5-arm LEDs as my regular brake lights. I installed (2) 6ohm 50W resistors from v-leds on the third brake light (as pictured) and it only halfway solved my problem. I have no problems during the day, but at night, if I flip my headlights on while in park, I get the common ABS/DSC lights and cruise control issue. Help please!

Anyone?

I can't really say for sure, but judging my your photo you have the 2 resistors wired up in parallel and I would imagine you would want them in series. I have a hard time believing that the stock bulb in there was a 48 watt bulb, 12 watts sounds a little closer.

Edit: Whoops, they are in series, just on different sides of the LED. Not really sure in that case.

why do you have a resistor on both the hot side and the ground side?

you didn't do this correctly. The resistor should be tapped into the hot side of the harness on one side, and the other side to ground. The ground wire on the harness should not have a resistor on it. Also, the resister doesn't run in series to the bulb, it would run in parallel on the hot side circuit to ground.

Could you explain it in terms of red wire/black wire please? I'm having a hard time picturing the correct way to do it

look at the pic i created above ..... leave the brake light harness the way it was designed. Then all you need to do is take a wire tap, tap one side of the resistor to the red wire, and then the other side of the resistor to the chasis.

The chassis being the metal of the trunk lid?

paimon.soror 09-27-2013 09:41 PM

correct

It worked! Thank you very much :)
