Just install AP pulley, CEL 300 came on? engine light blinks at 4000rpm

put my AP pulley on today, took it for a drive and the engine light start blinking at 4000 rpm. the guy at autozone told me it is misfire CEL300?
Also, can anybody tell me about the metal plate on the back of the crank pulley, do I leave it on or take it off. It is on the back of the AP pulley right now and its making grinding sound. :uhh: Can anybody help me, i am dying to get it fix. Thanks

:Eyecrazy: Yeah...it need to be on there and I believe it only fits one way..........it's keyed. It needs to be flat and on correctly!
If it's grinding then you have it on wrong and hopefully you didn't "F" it up!
You should really do some searches next time before you tackle something, before you get in real trouble.
Also the pulley needs to be flat and not wobbling! I think the AP will only go on one way as well and if you can't get it to line up right, then rotate it 90 degrees.

Also....did you do e-shaft position reset afterward?

You have to reset the e-shaft position sensor.
Basically, the ECU is expecting the eshaft to be where it used to be. You have to make it learn where the new shaft is.

There are two reset procedures, one for the NVRAM and the other for the KAM.

1) With the key in the off position, press and hold the odometer reset button and turn the key to on;
Continue to hold the odo button until the odometer reads "TEST" and then release.
2) Turn the key to off and repeat step one once more.

This will reset the entire PCM except the KAM which contains the e-shaft sensor profiles amongst other things. You can reset it with the familiar procedure:

This is really the one you need in this case.
1) Turn the key to on
2) Depress the brake pedal rapidly 20 times in a row until the oil pressure gauge sweeps to halfway and back again.

Go ahead and do them both, it can't hurt!

Remember to not shut the car off when it's cold.

Oh..and this of course cause your 0300 "random misfire" code.

well, i thought i know what i was doing. I did e-shaft position reset afterward but, the checking engine light is still on.
Some how there is small gap in between of Ap and the plate. I've tighten as much as i can, it just won't go any further. Please Tell me where did i do wrong.

Check to see if the index pins on the shaft line up with the holes on the pulley and the sensor plate..if they don't...re-install with the proper alignment....

I am going to redo everything tomorrow.....sux,,,,
anyone had the similar situation.

atl04rx8 01-13-2009 06:52 PM

i might go ahead do it tonight, it bothers me too much

Mazurfer 01-13-2009 08:21 PM

Sorry.....my internet connection blows tonight. Thanks Brighthouse!

Anyway......the problem has been seen before, do what was suggested above by dannobre.........take the pulley and the plate back off(careful on the plate) and make sure both are lined up correctly, then do the reset again.

I wouldn't drive it very much until it's correct. I'll see if I can find the post by Staticlag as you should read it.

Found it...see this............ https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...75509#poststop

That's just one post in a thread, but it's the one you need to reference.

so, i found out why i was having so much hard time installing this damn thing....
the AP pulley i got was imperfection fit, the inner ring of the AP pulley is slightly smaller than the stock pulley. Thus caused the improper fitment. :banghead::banghead:
pictures below shows what i am talking about.

you need to rotate it 180 degress, it only goes on one way!

I tried that

UPDATE!!
so here is what happened with the AP pulley. I sent the defect pulley (the inner circle of the pulley was too small, thus it cause the fitment problem) back to Agency Power company. They measured the inner circle and found out it was indeed smaller than it should. They sent me a new pulley, 4bolts and 2 belts. I installed it yesterday in under a hour, and it fits perfectly now. I've been driving the car for two days, no CEL so far. Engine feels it revs slightly quicker, i think..
