Exclamation intermittent power loss, bogging down. No codes, No cel. :(

Hello all. This problem comes and goes. The car will run like a champ for a while, days and weeks at a time then once in a blue moon, it bogs down and lacks power. The more gas you give it, the more it bogs down. I had to limp it home last night after it died on me four times. I drove it this evening and the problem is non existent. The car runs like beast for now. Where should I start looking? I was thinking fuel pump first. Thanks for any response. Its greatly appreciated.

I would say check coils, plugs, wires first.
fuel pump usually throws a code.

also air filter, and MAF sensor clean the MAF, and change the filter if its filthy.

would need further analysis to diagnose.

Coils plugs and wires are all brand new, along with the air filter. The maf also looked very clean when I checked it during the new ignition install. Coils plugs wires also very secure.

Cat could be getting clogged. Try cleaning your fuel sock and your ess. While the ess is unplugged I would go ahead and shoot some seafoam through your intake manifold. Compression check will show if your engine is giving out.

I'll give the ESS and sock a cleansing this Saturday. Will see if that helps. I don't know how the compression could be low. But if it is hypothetically how much am I looking to rebuild it?

You'd probably have to buy a new engine, but since you say it drives normal sometimes I doubt it could be faulting. Mine was having a little power loss recently according to my *** dyno and it ended up being a cat. Threw no code for it, because it was only slightly clogged.

Thanks for the replies. I drove the car today and at first all was normal. Then she bogged down on me in the upper rpm range, and slowly started bogging down at about 3-4krpm and eventually died. I sat there for a second and started it up no problems. I revved all the way to 7k no problems and got her up to 95mph. She seemed fine. When I got home the engine started making loud whines while revving it about 5krpm and even more at 6k and beyond. Not sure if this is normal. Thanks for any updated replies.

Look into some ssv threads. It engages to allow more fuel in at around the 3-4k range then again at somewhere around 7. If its stuck or sticking you will feel power loss. Based on your inquiry it does sound like a fuel problem. There could be multiple problems all giving your car less power. Be careful driving, and do not push it too hard. Seafoam will help unclog some carbon build up, and will possibly free up the ssv if injected in your intake manifold recently stated.

OP I would not push the car until I figure out what the issue is. You really do not want to cause a bigger issue. Look at you cat as suggested earlier. Fuel pump, SSV, could also be the cause. You won't know until you start checking things around.

Bump. Mazda is saying the cause of the whining noise is because of the transmission, and the power loss and bogging down is from coils. I just replaced the coils with 5k mile used ones and they looked fabulous to me. The Mazda tech said they did not look new. Just curious how trustworthy these guys are since they are a dealership? It was the first time I have taken the car to Mazda since owning it for 7 months. Just want to get some opinions before I shell out $2500 for a transmission replacement. Thanks for all comments.

Did you test the coils to make sure that they are actually working? A visual check will tell you nothing. How about your SSV? Have you checked it?

I'm not sure if they tested them or not. I havent checked the ssv because I wouldnt even know where to begin. I need to become more familiar with the car because shops and Mazda are f***ing expensive!!

$2500 transmission noise. Fuq that.
I would drive it till it starts grinding or something. i Doubt its the trans; seems fishy.

The Mazda dealer said the pump in the auto trans is shot. Says the whole trans needs replacing. I can get a used trans with a 6 month warranty money back guarantee for about $600 to my door. Seems possible because the shifting has gotten worse since I owned it and fluid is brown.

Also for what its worth... I've looked up this symptom and matter of fact you tube shows a dodge intrepid with a shot trans with that same whiney noise

Im getting a mid pipe so it still could be the issue. The Mazda dealer did not check the cat I do not believe. the cat was visually inspected with the car off by a non rotary but ase certified mech.

Bump. Getting the mid pipe today. Will post new info soon.

I'm really at a loss as of what to do. I can take the car to maztech next week and know for sure what's wrong with it. The problem is, is that maztech is 54 miles away from my casa. The car would never make it over there without it getting towed. I could probably have it towed for a $100 bill. Maztech would charge me about $80 to check it out for me. I'd have $180 in another fact/opinion. Or I can save another weeks paycheck and do what Mazda suggested and replace my transmission for about $700 with fluid. I'm at a loss Guys.. What would y'all do?

I may also add, this whole car excluding the engine has 180k miles. The engine has roughly 23k miles supposedly

The whine and everything?!? If that's the case how could it be my transmission? You have a 6 speed and I have a 4 speed auto. That rules out my trans if this is the case

Well im not good at replicated sounds. but from reading your post it sounds if we have the same or damn near similar issue. I'm a 10 year mechanic....but this is my 1st rotary this is very new to me. all sounds are weird but great..... until now(great)

I do have a whine....but its overpowered my a rattling sound..(not apex seals) Between 4-5k rpm up to red line coming from driver side front area. I'm going to be outta town today after 3pm so i wont get a chance to get back on the car until tomorrow or Wednesday. I do own a complete shop but its now just a hobby shop. still full of tools and fab equipment.
