Intake Valve Stuck?

Hey guys,

I've been doing some research and I think I have the problem where my intake valve is stuck shut. I can't even redline my car right now because it seems to get choked out before I get that far. It's almost like when you get your CAI too wet if anyone knows what that's like...

One thing I that I haven't hear people talk about is a noise that I get while driving. When I accelerate in 2nd or 3rd gear aggressively, as soon as I get to about 4.1 k the sound of the engine abruptly becomes louder. I'm definitely not an expert but I would assume that the sound comes from that valve not opening when it's supposed to.

Does the noise change make any sense to anyone? Thanks.

EDIT: I almost forgot! This all started after my car sat for a week while getting some body work done. That is why i'm thinking it's stuck shut since it had a week to sit there and harden.

What body work was done? Front bumper by chance? When you say that your car gets louder...are you talking engine noise...does it sound like it is sucking air...can you describe that a little better?

Yes, It was front bumper and hood. I've kind of thought that the sucking sound was getting louder but I can't confirm. The only thing I know for sure is louder is the engine noise. Like the exhaust gets louder.

I'm going to probably go take off the intake and check the valves. I'll probably use the can of carbon cleaner I have while I'm at it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I would also check the VFAD and make sure it is hooked up properly. Also check for vacuum leaks that might be in the intake tube as they might not have hooked everything back up properly.

Betting on that one...you will probably throw a CEL for it soon. All of the symptoms you stated happened to me. For me it became way too dangerous to drive, be careful and get it fixed. If you are in warranty, it should be covered. If not, get a high-flow cat...it will likely be much cheaper than getting a new OEM one. Or even find one locally...sometimes you'll get lucky.

Thanks for the Replies. I took the intake off and the valve was full of gunk but aparently not stuck because I'm still having the same problem. I'll probably order a new CAT tomorrow when I get bored at work.

So far I the only CELs i have are

P0850 Neutral switch input circuit problem ON 2 CCM and
P0039 (the code that cobb ap keeps giving people. Anyone figure out what it means yet?)

Can anyone tell me what the Neutral switch code means? Thanks.

Update: I installed an RP Supercat today and it fixed the problem. It's a little louder with my greddy sp2 exhaust but i like the new growl.

Thanks a ton for helping me figure this out!
