I get home from Iraq and this happens???? F*CK!!!
like the title says. I get home from Iraq, soooo excited to get in my car and drive. along with putting all the parts on my car I've collected and ordered over the last 6 months, and the little slut won't crank up!! AHHHHH!! do of course I get some cables. jumped her. she turned right over. good as new...I waited about 7 mins or so took the cables off and she died...WTF? so I again put the cables back on and my horn starts going nuts! It wont shut off. I immediately pull the fuse after the agonizing 2 mins of listening to this thing go off...I then switched batteries with my room mate (350z) and no start! what a f*cking day!!!
has anyone had anything like this happen before? heres some history while I was deployed oil changes warmed up and driven on the regular while I was gone never flooded when She couldn't be driven she was cranked let idol for 10 mins. rev'ed a few times to 7k slowly and cut off. this was once every two weeks. |
this actually happened to my uncle who also has an 8 but it was in a shops possession at the time and its just sitting in his driveway now because he doesn't wanna mess with it
|
This happened to me once at 7/11... I don't remember what I did to get the car fine again but something worked as I remember a big sigh of relief.
It may be a part of the theft deterrent system. This may sound simple but did you try replacing the fuse, connecting the good battery, and either disabling the alarm via remote or putting the key in the ignition/twisting? |
just removed the fuse. I tried to crank her up first thing when i woke up...still nothing im going to take my battery in and see if its the charge before i buy another one
|
I dont think it was the battery. I bought a new one anyway.
My brother seems to think either a fried starter or the immobilizer kicked in and i have to get my keys reprogrammed. has anyone had any experience with this? |
Very likely its your battery.
With our car, you really shouldn't let it sit for too long with the battery connected. Its best to disconnect it when away for a period of time. But you can take it into places like Autozone and they'll test it for free. The starter doesn't just "die" unless you excessively crank it for a long time and the engine is spinning the flywheel quicker than the starter motor. |
I replaced the battery with a new one (my last post)
It was left with my room mate. he drove it once every week up until he left on deployment. There are no autozones in hawaii. just checkers. |
im suspecting the immobilizer....;)
|
If the horn was going nuts that tends to be the result of reversed polarity.
Don't ask me how I know that. If it didn't crank afterwards the main 120 amp fuse might have gone. Don't ask me how I know that either. |

Its funny that you say that b/c I switched the jumper cables by accident at night (no lights under the hood) Dont you just love how are pos terminal has a black cover on it :/
but that was after it wouldn't start the first time on the old battery. The car was towed to mazda yesterday. I'll let them deal with it. I dont have anymore. I go on leave tomorrow |
My guess would be battery died and you charged it with the jumper cables to have the immobilizer and alarm go off when you disconnected. Reversing the polarity on the jumper cables, if I remember right, causes one of the fusable links to pop causing it to not start. Good luck though
|
Sorry to hear that. :/
|
I hope u didn't cross connect the positive and negative which gives ur car a nice 24v dc love ...
|
Original starting problem who knows, but he's already said he connected the jumper cables backwards so the 120A main fuse is gone................just as Flashwing has said.
Hopefully that's all it was/is?????? |
Battery was dead for the original. Fuses where blown :/
Fixed now and enjoying my slut once again after 6 months of being apart. Also I did put he AFE SS in and the midpipe :D |
^...............there ya go! Good deal!
Welcome home! Makes me wonder how long it sat(even though supposedly driven) on the older battery? Maybe it just wasn't enough to keep it charged? Tip for next time as someone already said...............Unhook it if leaving for extended periods of time. |
^^ and you might want to invest in a trickle charger like us folks that garage for the winter.

I just replaced my battery. It seemed to die overnight. It worked well for the last 3 or 4 years, then last Tuesday I went to start up and it was REEEAAAALLL slow to turn over. It finally started, but I was sure that I had left a light on or trunk open, etc. When I got to work, I made sure that all lights were off and there was no power draw on the system.
After work, same story and the next morning it was even worse. I took it to get the battery checked and I had only 220 CCA. I think the only reason my car started is because of my BHR coils. I got a new battery and she starts up faster than I've ever noticed before. I just hate that I have to now go through all the "relearning of the fuel trims". Feels so sluggish ATM...hopefully that will go away real soon. |

Stale gas. Without STABIL gas can go bad as little as 6 months. Prob have a flood condition cause poor burn. Try to add a little fresh super and if get started drive it till you burn up the old swill before turning off.
