Hot start issue - 2004 RX8 (UK Owner)
Hi all,
This is my first post so please be patient with me :) I know a little about RX-8's and the correct starting procedures but I appear to have a problem with hot starts. Basically, if I go to the gas station and fill-up the car takes a couple of 10 second cranks to get the car to fire. Is there anything I need to be doing differently on my hot start procedure - or is it something a more sinister? The car has done 70k miles and is the 2004 model. after reading other articles, it is possible that the engine has a low compression issue. The car had a full service at 69k miles and had the coils, sparks, and leads replaced (not by myself but the previous owner - via a mazda dealer) Any advice would be gratefully received and anything that I can check would be appreciated. Do a compression test!
Given your mileage there's a remote chance that it's the fuel pump as well. Generally hot start issues are caused by poor compression and\or a clogged catalytic converter. Worn out ignition components don't ignite the fuel as they should, that's why the cat dies. There's another possibility :) To inspect the cat just take it off and take a look. Shake it if it looks good as there are 2 sections inside and you may have damaged the rear one. |
