High RPM power loss plus other issues!

Greetings everyone. I am relatively new to the forum, and have been an rx8 owner for about a year now. Anyway, I shall proceed to my issue: About a month or so ago, I noticed that my car was hesitating above 7500 rpm unlike it ever had before. As I was busy that week, I decided that the problem could at least wait a bit (I assumed clogged cat at worst) and called it a day. However, the very next week, I began to have fairly long crank times, hot and cold. This is when I decided to begin the process of figuring out what the problem was. I first took off the cat, examined it and the internal structure appeared to be in fine condition. I then attempted starting the car without the cat on (although the likelihood of it making any difference in ignition was low, I decided to try it) and alas, the car still started poorly. I put in brand new ngk wires, plugs and coils several months ago, so at the time I doubted that the issue would be in the ignition parts. I also cleaned the MAF sensor, which didn't make a difference either. The car has now developed another new issue, which is jerky acceleration at as low as 2500 rpm. I may be setting off, and once I hit 3rd or 4th gear, the car will jerk violently, at which point I'll put it into 2nd to raise the revs a bit and stop the jerking. This is so strange to me due to the fact that my initial symptom appeared out of nowhere, with no warning. Just a day earlier than when I first noticed the high rpm hesitation, the car was starting and driving perfectly, and it continued to start perfectly until a week after my initial high rpm issue reared its head. The car in question is a 2007 RX8 with about 50,000 miles and the 6 speed manual. I thank everyone in advance for the help and warm welcome!

Hiroshima: search the forums for eccentric shafts position sensor (also reffered to as ess ). You may need to clean it, then perform the 20 brake - stomp procedure. Fairly simple job.
Also check to ensure your engine valves are operating appropriately. Copy the following in brackets and post it in a Google search:
"Site:rx8club.com remove vdi beta video"

Cookingislife: have you verified that your cat converter is undamaged? BEST way to ensure is to lift the car, PLACE IT ON JACK STANDS!!!, and pull the front down and look inside with a flashlight. For posts on how to remove, use the same Google search feature I posted above, but instead of "... remove vdi beta video ", type "... visually inspect cat converter" and search from there
