Hesitation

Hey guys need some help! Just recently my 8 has been havin some hesitation at various rpm's. Wether im accelerating or just cruisin it deaccelerates for just a sec than resumes and slightly jerks me. Any suggestions?, ive heard everything from dirty cat to bad injector?

Is it a standard or Automatic?

JRBarrientes 07-30-2010 04:03 PM

Its standard, 2004, i got the engine recall exactly a year ago they replaced it and i got new spark plugs

Mazurfer 07-30-2010 04:06 PM

How many miles you have on the car?

We aren't mind readers!

What do you mean "you got the engine recall and they replaced it"? What....is it..........the engine?

Base don very, very limited info you gave us..............it could be coils, wires, plugs(I know what you said about them, so not likely), CAT, MAF, fuel pump, etc.
Need a few more details.

JRBarrientes 07-30-2010 04:22 PM

yes they replaced the engine, the car is at 46,500 miles the new engine is around 8,000 mi.

Mazurfer 07-30-2010 04:59 PM

Hmmmmmmm......need to think about it now.
Do you happen to know if they put new coils on when the replaced the engine?
Two other easy checks are:
1.) Look and see if you have oil in the intake box or the accordion tube. If you do then clean this up and you'll probably need to clean the MAF with some MAF cleaner(any auto parts store). Read the directions carefully as it's fragile. Don't touch the wire(s) inside. They are very small and fragile.
2.) You can unhook the CAT at the front(two bolts) and move it just enough to the side to look in with a flashlight and see if the honeycomb still look good and intact.

You might want to get some Seafoam and do that as well. Can get this at most auto parts stores or Wally-mart. Maybe you got some carbon build-up?

Wait for others to chime in and see what the consensus says.

Hey thanks alot man awhile back me and my buddy did find oil in the accordion tube but werent sure if that was normal or not. The dealer did say i needed to replace my coils but wasnt sure if they were bullshiting or not since they have screwed me before. Have done the carbon cleaning at the dealer a week before they put the new engine in last year. If there is more oil in the box or accordion is it a leak?

Mazurfer 07-30-2010 05:22 PM

No, it's blow back and/or means you have either overfilled it(or someone did). If you find more in there, then clean the MAF and maybe throttle body. Then think about installing a catch can.
Do a search and use the term "catch can" and see what's up with those. I run one as many of us do.
Let us know what you find in the tube, and then we will go from there.
FYI...............some dealers are known to ver fill the oil. Who does your oil changes?

JRBarrientes 07-30-2010 05:24 PM

alright, ive been takin it to NTB the last two times and just recently yesterday

Mazurfer 07-30-2010 05:29 PM

Warning Will Robinson! :mchase:

So.............if you just started getting the hesitation......AND.............you just got the oil changed/filled. Then go check it and see if the put too much in and drain some if you have to.
Then......you better look at that intake!
If too much oil gets into the intake system, it will for sure get the MAF dirty.

I was going to have you do the 20 brake pedal stomp reset, but not with this new piece of info. Not yet anyway. You really gotta go look and see what's up.

What is "NTB" and did the hesitation just really become noticeable today?

JRBarrientes 07-30-2010 05:36 PM

ive been gettin the hesitation since tuesday actually just not as bad as today, ntb is national tire and battery center, but ill check the box and accordion

JRBarrientes 07-30-2010 11:16 PM

checked the air box and accordion=no oil

We have those out by me to, they're a quick lube/tire/brake place. Like Jiffy Lube or Sears Auto :cussing: Half the problem right there.

Checked the accordion again this morning there was a little bit of oil not alot though, took it to autozone for obd II test this is what came up, P0037=
sensor heater circuit low- bank 1 sensor 2 probable cause
open or short circuit condition
open fuse
failed heated oxygen sensor- bank 1 sensor 2

That code may be narrowing things down a bit. Try checking the cat visually as suggested earlier. Not a fool-proof diagnosis (as the cat may be plugged etc beyond what you can see or it may be the sensor itself and not the cat). See this link starting at around page 27 http://isomerica.net/~fluffy/Ren/RX8...ineControl.pdf.
