help - ssv vs P0301

SO....about a month ago I popped the SSV code and had been waiting for some time off before I ripped the whole engine bay apart getting it out.

(and it has been running normally the whole time - i don't put too many miles on it)

BUT, a couple days ago, my power completely bogged down and I went into some limp-home mode - pulled over to the side of the road and the car died. Wouldn't start until it cooled down after ~20 minutes.

Now I have a P0301 code and when I start it, it'll run fine - start idling rough - lose power.

My question is - are they related? Should I still focus on cleaning that SSV or should I try something else?

Notes:
Recently (last 6 months) installed:
High-flow cat,
New AEM air filter/cleaned MAF,
New starter
Also have fairly new plugs and wires.

It's an 04 with ~70k miles.

From search I get either/or but havn't found much on the two issues combined. Help?:tear:

...and get a compression test.

lol I'm scared to get a compression test. I'll install some new coils tomorrow if I can buy them.

Looks like there are quite a few Advance Auto's in Chicago, use their website to find one that has the coils in stock.

+1 ^ you should invest in bhr coils or custom later down the road.

Is there a difference between Leading and Trailing? Picked up a set of 4 from Advance and two faces are glossy black while two are yellow.

No, all 4 are identical. The ones you picked up were different colors? They should all be black.. at least i thought?

Just make sure they get hooked up correctly.

Holy balls batman, who invented this coil setup?! Is it normal to have rust underneath?

I cleaned it out an put the new coils on (see the yellow vs black - what the heck?).
They are the BWD coils from AdvanceAutoParts.

She fired up nice and idled smooth. Will have to let her run highway tomorrow to see if it works.

BWD changed the 'face' of the coils from a black plastic to an opaque plastic some time ago. There are all the same part number, so they all show up in the same parts bin and it's a roll of the dice which one you get for any 1 coil.

In quality, they are roughly equivalent to the first generation of OEM coils. Expect to change them before 30,000 miles. Every once in a long while we have someone complaining about getting 1 defective BWD coil, so that possibility exists. Same with any other part though.
