help im an rx8 nube (engine failure)

hey im matt just got my rx8 in Jan 2011 and the rotary engine is new to me so any help would be appreciated thanks , I was driving my 8 down the highway and all of a sudden when i hit 4000 rpms my check engine light came on and i lost all power to accelerate so i coasted off the highway and turned the 8 off . When i try'd to start it again it shook pretty bad and took a long time to start and when it ran it ran rough . So i decided to get it towed to a mazda dealer and get it checked out they checked it out and found it had a code P0301 on it , they checked for sparks and they were good , and when they preformed a compression test they said that the #1 rotor had 0 PSI . Im just wondering if i would have to do a total engine replacement or just replace the Apex seals in the engine. any input would be appreciated Thanks again

0 PSI in a rotor = engine replacement. Dealerships can't fix internal engine issues, they just replace the engine. What year is yours by the way?

its a 2004, i plan on taking out the engine this week sometime to break it down could it just be the apex seals ???

How many miles are on the car? Under 100,000 miles you have warranty.

it has 70,000 miles on it but it has a rebuilt title from a flood back in 07 so the warranty is out the window now which sucks .

Yes, but apex seal pieces are very destructive to the rotors and rotor housings, the sharp bits of broken apex seal can damage the end plates too.

If you have a bad compression rotary engine and randomly guess apex seal, you are most likely right; the real question is "What ELSE broke?".
