Heavy Shudder under Clutch engagement.

Hi guys,

A UK RX8 owner here, love her to bits - apart from a relatively new thing.

Started getting severe shudder under clutch engagement, I mean the car bounces as I pull the clutch out, it doesn't make a difference what RPM I use, obviously the higher I use (when I get fed up with it shuddering and give it more RPM) the smellier the clutch is.

It's really odd, because it doesn't happen all the time, it seems to vary, not by the weather or whether the car is hot or cold, it just sort of does it when it wants to.

Is there a possibility that engine mounts can have an effect on this?

Oh, when it started happening I replaced it with an Exedy OEM clutch kit, but its still happening - So I'm not sure its the clutch.

P.s, Car is an 2004, 36k miles (55k km's or so) 231 MT.

Please help! I'm getting desperate!

Search "PPF Alignment".

Or not and then search on exploded pilot bearing or similar - personal experience from the school of dumb.

Yes motor mounts can affect it. When I put in stiff motor mounts I had the same issue. Are your motor mounts OEM? If so, check to see if they are failing. Not sure if failing OEM mounts would give that issue. Stiffer mounts are designed to not absorb energy that could potentially be used to get the car moving faster while OEM mounts are more for comfort. But, unless you installed those, prolly not your issue.

Hey guys, I have looked at the PPF threads and it is my next port of call as I don't know for sure whether the mechanic put it back where it came from ...

The car is on OEM Motor Mounts, but thanks for that idea.

The shudder that I experience, also creates clutch smell, though this might be because I sort of ride the clutch momentarily as the shudder makes it feel like the car is going to stall.

I will report back once I have checked the PPF and let you know if its worked ...

Thanks again,
Andy
