heat shield problem

Used the search method and found nothing, so i'll ask, do I need the heat shield for my muffler and if not, how do i take it off?

Williard 03-26-2014 11:47 PM

A better question is why do you want to remove the heat shield?

It's rattling really bad

Go to the link i provided. There are SEVERAL fixes for this throughout the forum. The search function is pretty much useless. READ

Up top, for a reason: ;)
The best way to search this forum:
Go to Google.com, and in the search box, type: site:rx8club.com
Then a space.
Then start typing what you are looking for.

Like this:
RX8Club.com search via Google

Your Google search results will be ONLY from this forum, and it will use all the power and intelligence of the best search engine in the world.

I still use that function nearly every day between RX8Club.com, Miata.net, Mazdas247.com, Mazda-speed.com, and Stackoverflow.com. So if you have a question that you think is common, give that search method a try, sit back with your beverage of choice and start reading :)

Additional Google Search tip:
If you are trying to search within a specific thread for information threads that turn out to be very long, add the name of the thread to your search in quotes. This will not restrict the search to just that thread, however the results from that thread will be bias'ed towards the top of the Google search results, and usually be the first results.

Like this:
Search RX8Club.com's Dumb Question Thread for MAF Sensor posts

Additional Google Search tip:
If you are getting lots of noise in your result set for some reason, or things not related to your problem, add negative qualifiers to your search string. For example searching site:rx8club.com alternator -starter will only give you results that DO contain alternator, and DON'T contain 'starter'.
Often, it may be helpful to use this with:
-mobile and/or -m.rx8club.com to remove the mobile sites
-tagged to remove the links that are only a list of threads with the tags (our tag system is largely useless)

Wasn't trying to offend RIWWP, i was mainly saying it's useless for me. I enjoy reading everything and learning the new things as i stumble across them. I already sent him a link to a DIY fix. He should be able to handle it from there.

RIWWP 03-27-2014 02:35 PM

OH, you weren't offending me. I completely agree that the built-in search is useless. I was just providing the OP a better way to search as a supplement to your statement :)

Jacheem2005 03-27-2014 05:58 PM

Thanks for the help, but not that heat shield. I'm talking bout the one on the muffler. I'll take a pic to show you.

Williard 03-27-2014 06:26 PM

Ok i still know what your talking about. Listen is it MANDATORY no. Is it a very smart and safer option to remove and replace with a new or like item YES. No doubt. Your exhaust gets very hot. The heat shield is there for a reason. Make one buy one but put one on. RIWWP am i wrong?

RIWWP 03-27-2014 07:54 PM

Yes, you are right, but you are also jumping to a conclusion. He could be trying to remove it to get access to something behind it, or trying to replace it because his is rusted out. He is just looking for instructions (which I don't know, but it should be simple).
