Heat damage to shocck sensor?
 

Long story short: I made a bad call and drove a bit with rear rotor misfiring. My cat got hot enough to melt some carpet on the passenger side floor next to transmission tunnel. I just put new coils in, and my puddle lights flash and click nonstop as soon as the battery is connected. I pulled the Room fuse, which stopped it and also inspected the wiring under the passenger side plastic kick panel. I'm wondering if the heat could have damaged the shock sensor causing it to either warp or fuse something delicate inside, registering a constant "shock", since that is exactly what happens when I slam a door too hard. I don't have my car here to verify, so just curious if anyone has heard of something like this, or is familiar with the inner workings of a shock sensor.

And yes. I'm an idiot. I should probably have my rotorhead card taken away. Learned a valuable lesson almost the hard way. I'm lucky I didn't set my car on fire. Thanks in advance.

I disconnected the shock sensor from the harness and had a look inside. nothing appears damaged, and the lights still flash with it out. of course the wires are still hooked up, so I won't know for sure until it is completely uninstalled. Perhaps the diode train got damaged, as they do hang down pretty low.

you might want to make sure ur engine mounts are good

I recently fixed 1 Rx-8, the carpet and insulation by the firewall burnt out as well, it was due to failed igntion PLUS failed engine mount, the engine/manifold got too close to the material, and crispy!

Thanks for that tip. I'll keep an eye. I did figure out that my passenger seat warmer and seat belt sensor wires melted (at the least) and the resulting short is the most likely culprit. I'll have to pull the center console and passenger side carpet to see if any other wiring got fried. At least it wasn't the rat's nest under the dash!
