Hard gettin into reverse

Every time I start the car in the morning I have to play to with the transmission just to get it into reverse.
I got the car second hand with 9k miles on it.Just wondering if that's normal.

Yea it is fairly normal. What I do is if I'm not sure it's in, is just apply light pressure and slowly start to move and you will feel it fall into gear. Works everytime for me like a charm.

Dope.
Just concerned cause it's really hard to get in.
And when i'm in a parking lot usually I have no space to roll forward. So it takes a while to get it into gear.Specially if I'm on a date!Ahaha
Thanx

I think it's a flaw. I do it almost everytime and it's been like that for the last 3 years but no Mazda dealership wants to put time into it. I do it slowly like it feels like it's in gear, but it makes a whirring sound like it's not quite in, then I have to shove it down more.

yup, i have that problem too. sometimes with first gear, and then second gear at high rpms.

I've grinded second alot specially when I'm rollin at high rpms. Can't really speed shift second. But it's a rare problem for me.Only 10k miles on my car.
Reverse in the other hand I have to really jam into gear.I'm just worried I'm grindin the gears down..

So do I. It's meant to be hard to get into reverse, so it's a conscious effort and not by accident.

same deal here. I'm pretty sure it's a normal thing with reverse and I always give it pressure before I back up just for safety.

also, putting the car in 1st or 3rd them trying to get it in gear seems to help with me... you dont need to roll or even release the clutch, just a quick pop in 3rd then try reverse seems to work
