Going From "Park" to "Drive"

Good evening, i have a automatic 2004 rx8
the mileage is 57,000
when i shift from park to drive
i feel a jerk and a lag when going
into drive...i was wondering if this can be
a transmission problem..
feedback would be appreciate, thanks

Check the A/T fluid level and has it ever been changed(what color is it)? It could be motor mounts they have had a "TSB" out on them...here is a copy.

Black AT fluid is BAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDD

Get that shit changed ASAP. The damage may already be done, though.

Transmission fluid should be red (or brownish if it's near the end of its useful life). Black indicates it has been seriously neglected and is failing to lubricate and cool the transmission properly thus damaging it.

Black ATF should be completely replaced, not just a drain and refill which leaves roughly half of the old fluid in the torque converter.

Avoid quickie shops for this kind of work, find a reputable transmission specialist to properly replace the fluid without causing more problems with detergents or power equipment not suited to the condition of the transmission.

The DIY alternative would be to drain and refill 4 or 5 times over the course of several weeks, gradually lowering the percentage of old fluid. This cannot be done all in a few days because it takes time for the old and new fluid to mix.

The damage to the trans has more than likely been done. That's why the fluid is black.
Get the power flush from a dealer or reliable shop. You need to remove all the contaminated fluid.

I would ask the dealer if your drivetrain warranty is still good.

i bought the car used and it didn't come with any warranty
so i guess i am screwed
