GAS consumption emergency help!

Hey guys I have a 2005 mazda rx8 that I purchased about 2 months ago, had 63k miles now has 64k.
Heres the problem!!
I have read over and over that a full tank people are getting from 230miles - 260 miles.. I understand that this car consumes alot of gas but I'm getting around 11-13 mpg combined city/highway. A full tank gets me 180-185 miles.. Can someone please help me out. I drive about 65% highway and 35% city

When were the spark plugs last changed?

If you are on the originals your mileage will just get worse and worse....

first- do you understand what "highway" driving is? it is not simply getting off the low road on to the highway and back down on your way to work/lunch/dinner/movies etc some during hi-traffic 'rush hours'. doing that is CITY DRIVING.

Highway DRIVING is when you get on the highway with a full tank get up to 6th gear and drive a steady mph for HOURS at a time getting off to get fuel.

next answer the following
  • how many miles a day do you drive?
  • how much time do you spend driving those miles?
  • where do you live?
  • what rpm do you shift at in each gear?
  • when was the last time the air filter was cleaned/ replaced?
  • when was the last time the sparkplugs were cleaned/replaced?
  • what is the state of the tires?
  • when was the last alignment done?
  • how do you calculate gas mileage?

there will probably be more questions once you answer those.

everybodys driving is different. just because Joe is getting 1000 miles in Gotham city doesn't mean you will get 500 miles on mars.

Jesus, what happen to common sense these days?

The spark plugs I haven't checked it's the originals. Air filter I changed recently. I shift usually at around 4k-6k .. And highway I drive for like 10-15 min 6th gear. At 3k Rpms. From my house to work and back daily is 32 miles. I redline it once a day which I heard is good for the engine and that babying the engine is bad supposely.

I havd same issue. I cleaned MAF sensor and noticed that consumption got better. THen after couple tanks i saw it again. THe only difference coming to my mind was temperature outside. First time when i noticed the problem it was 80-90 outside. THen it went down to 60-70 and problem disappeared. As soon as it got hot again i saw a problem again. Did you start noticing your issue when it got hot in your area?
