Fuel pump nipple leaking?
Hi guys,
Today I was putting on some new swaybar bushings when I noticed the underside of the gas tank on the driver's side is covered in crap. I pulled the rear seat and the fuel pump cover, and the top of the fuel pump was also covered in grimy fuel residue. I started the car and I could feel gas leaking out between the plastic fuel pump nipple and the fuel line connector. The O-ring in the connector looks fine, and feels like it seals against the nipple which also looks fine, but it appears something is cracked somewhere... Will I just have to suck up the $300 for a new fuel pump? |
Find the leak before you start buying parts :)

Well there is really only two possible parts that are leaking: The pump housing or the connector (the one with the green retainer ring)
|
Crap ok. I don't see a crack but I suppose it could be a hairline. Is the connector with the green retention clip likely ok?

For anyone with this issue, here is what the crack looks like, on the underside of the nipple.

You have to replace the pump assembly. You can buy a whole new one (recommended) or just buy a used one that some pulled and just pull the top off of it.
