Eratic RPM's When Engaging Clutch
For about a week now when I push in my clutch at slow speeds the rpm's drop below 1k almost to 0 then bounces back and forth then stabalizes back at 1k after, and has stalled twice but started right back up with no problems. Other than that the car drives fine with no CEL'S. Any Ideas as to what is causing this?

does it act like this? If so, most likely a bad neutral switch.
Note: This was taken with the car sitting in my driveway in neutral. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...h_MOV01676.jpg |
might be a clutch switch...but it usually throws a CEL.....

You can replace both switches for about $35. One is about $8 and the other about $27
One throws a CEL for sure...the other one I don't know |
so a clutch switch or a nuetral switch would cause the rpms to dance between o and 1k? When idling the car doesn't do it, it only happens when down shifting while driving. Also where are the switches located and can I pick them up at a pep boys or advance auto?

subscribing.
I've had an occurrence similar to Jedi's video when the outside temp would dip below 20F, but the idle would stabilize once the car itself came to operating temps. never knew about a clutch switch... |
You would have to buy them at a dealer.... Hell for $35 it's not a big deal
If the car is still under warranty they will be covered |
no CEL ever came on with my neutral switch problem. Issue was fixed when Mazda gave me a new transmission. (2nd and 5th gear synchros were going...fast)

Actually now it doesn't happen at low speed now if I come up to a red light and have to shift down to a stop or round a corner it bounces between 0 and 1k rpm then stabalizes. I don't think it is a nuetral switch because it is a below 1k thing and it only happens when driving. Also if I push the clutch in and out while stopping it won't do the bounce it idles down normal, it only happens when I push the clutch all the way in coming to a stop.
