Enigne, Clutch, or Transmission Issue???
 

Hello,

I just recently put in a Exedy Stage 1 clutch on stock flywheel in my 8. Everything went smooth but the flywheel did not want to come off for machining at all. All necessary nuts and bolts were removed. So preventing any damage I left the flywheel on and threw on the Exedy clutch with the heavy duty release bearing all supplied by BHR. The first week everything worked fine no wierd noises or anything such but as time went by things begin to occur.

Problem 1

The chirping noise is back. When I press the clutch pedal down the noise goes away, when I release the clutch pedal its only gone for a moment but the chirping comes back suddenly. No clue why this is happening again? Always thought it was something to do with the OEM release bearing/clutch from Mazda but its back with new clutch parts???

Problem 2

When car idles at a stand still between 750rpm and lower there is a weird maybe clunking noise coming from somewhere from the engine, clutch or transmission zone. When I press the clutch down you can hear it better but it cycles the clunk (its there one second and then not there and then there again). Can't yet find the issue.

Not sure what it can be anymore and I am going nuts. I want to fix the problem but don't know what it can be at this point.

Any help would be very appreciated.

When you tried to remove the flywheel, did you use a puller?
And did you remove the 54mm nut?

When chirping noises go away when you press in the clutch pedal, it is not the release bearing.
Not sure why so many people think that.
That would be more like your pilot bearing, I assume you didn't replace that since you didn't mention it.

Did you grease the spline, release fork pivot ball, and where the release bearing attaches to the release fork?
Lack of grease will cause chirping sounds from the metal-to-metal vibrating against each other.

Yes, I removed the 54mm nut. Sorry, should have mentioned the pilot bearing, did replace that aswell and yes to the grease. I think I grease the hell out of it =).

Did some more listening the noise, the sound is more noticeable from inside the car. When I got under you barely hear it and when listening in from the engine bay its hard to hear as well. I am leaning towards transmission heat shield???
