Engine won't start, sound like has no compression ! :(

Car : Mazda RX 8 04 6mt
So yesterday morning i moved my car about 10 meters and after 6-7 hours i try to start it but nothing happens ! First is sound like low battery but today i put on a new one ! The engine still not start, now is sound to me that the compression is low...

You do you think i have to check first ? I need help...

Use this.

Some people(with someone else there to assist) just pull the fuel pump relay and attempt to start the car. Once it fires............plug that relay in really quick and keep it running.

Think if I knew it was flooded, I'd go ahead and pull the plugs first to look, as most times they are soaked and need to be cleaned or replaced. While the plugs are out either follow those instructions above or pull the fuel pump relay and get all that unburnt fuel out of there by cranking the engine. Put a cloth or rag near the plug holes!

mazdaverx7 01-03-2009 10:29 AM

pull and gently clean the plugs. remove the fuel pump relay. add a small amount of oil into the lower plug holes(if its really flooded) and reinstall the plugs. crank the engine. when it starts, reinstall the fuel pump relay.

I will try to do this today with a little help....! I hope this is the problem ... Thanks a lot Mazurfer and mazdaverx7 !

04RX8man 01-04-2009 12:46 PM

yeah just sounds flooded follow the above procedure and u should have no problem and have it up and runningwithin a half hour

mazdaverx7 01-04-2009 05:48 PM

did you manage to get the engine up and running?

Chris_G9 01-05-2009 03:32 AM

Not yet.... Today my engineer will be connect the Diagnostic to the car to find out what is happening....

mazdaverx7 01-05-2009 05:00 AM

is the CEL coming on at all?

Chris_G9 01-05-2009 09:20 AM

Finally i brought my car home... I change my spark plugs only ! :)

Vyndictive 01-05-2009 02:10 PM

So, spark plugs caused the car to not start after it started fine and ran for a few moments...

I think it was flooded and the old plugs may have been fine.

Chris_G9 01-06-2009 03:20 AM

My old spark plugs...

^ hmm. . . new ones probably won't hurt anything. :)

I retract my statement.

Razz1 01-06-2009 11:23 AM

They should be a little more tan for the RX8 as they are all some what black because they run rich.

Best thing to do is either buy the coils form BHR (hotter spark) or buy the AP from MM (proper AF ratio).

Either item should prevent flooding from occuring again.

Pay shop money.
Get new engine.
See if car starts.

Drive away happy.

BC.

Loki 12-12-2012 02:12 PM

Have they measured the compression? What are the numbers?
FYI, the engine is under warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles (from time of original sale). 8 years is up for most 2004's, but hey, maybe yours was sold just before Christmas.

The dreaded day has come .. engine rebuild..

Hi all

I am very new to this rx8 club , so new infact i dont actually know how to start my own thread!!!

im hoping someone on her can help me to do that aswell... anyway..

the dreaded day has come i have had my rx8 for 5 months and last week the engine wouldnt start..

i took it to a mazda dealership who done two tests,, a diagnostic and the low compression test,, which actually cost me 185:00 sterling english pounds!! as i live in the uk :(

anyway the results from the test are as follows..

cars is flooded, found leads not sitting tightly also front rotor plug cracked,( this plug is now on rear) this car must have been misfiring and overfuelling,
cat melted internally with bits in the exhaust system, advised new cat and exhaust system , new plugs, ht leads and coils once runnung..

compression test front 3.4, 3.9, 3.8 rear 3.8, 4.2, 4.2

mazda state anything below 5.0 requires a new engine

so all in all i need an engine rebuild, new cat and possibly a new exhaust system

if you have seen my photo album of the car you can understand why it would kill me to scrap this car.. plus i bought it 5 months ago from a car dealership not a mazda dealership for 2650 which i though was a bargain!!

with me having no knowledge of rotary engines and how to maintain them i feel the fault was partly mine and also partly the previous owner (whoever that is)

the question i ask is,, if i get this rebuilt and the knowledge i have now to look after and maintain the car.. could this happen again two years or more down the line..

p.s all my friends are saying dont do it and get a totally different car,, but in the 5 months i have had the car i absolutley adore her,, plus i got her new shoes, tints an added to the bose system with my own bass box in the boot, and i feel i havent had her long enough to disown and hand her to the scrapyard.. any advise would be much appreciated

thanks

Wow that's a sad story.
I really feel horrible for that RX8

I'm going to go with ... a rotary is too much for you to handle, sell it in hopes that it goes to a better home.

 here's some karma for your car getting purchased by a fellow rotard
